Ah, Appreciate your answer dude, made it real clear. I was hoping they were more of a region lock like DVDs and nz would fall into the Asian region. Oh well guess I'll have to wait a month till I'm back in nz and buy one then....

Should also clarify that they're only locked as a phone, just like any other cell phone is locked by its carrier. They wifi and all the other functions will still work abroad. But yes, if you're going back home in a month, it's better to get one there.

Would most of the features still work though? I remember reading that Korea uses a different text messaging system. The phone will work as a phone, but maybe features like text messaging, MMS, and other features might be broken.

That was a quote from early in the day. The girl in my office who's helping me with my reservation said she heard 2 million people in total have reserved online so far. So much for fears of the iPhone being a dud in Korea. It would also explain why they're not answering their phones.

No luck so far in my quest. Will keep you all posted.

As far as the text messaging system, is it really different? I can send texts to my friends in Canada and so can others I know here, so I don't think we have to worry about that.

I think she meant to say 20,000 and said 2 million. 2 Million would be like 10% of the entire Korean population. There is no way that figure is true. The news reports I've been reading in Korean put the number at 20-30,000.

Yeah you know Koreans mess up English numbers all the time. I'm betting it's something like 20,000. If it was 2M it'd be all over the news.
