check out intermission starring colin farrell, colm meaney, and cillian murphy. It's a brilliant, totally under-rated movie

Thanks! I watched it last night based on this recommendation. A very watchable movie. I don't think it would be spoiling much to say Farrell's character in Intermission is a lot sleazier than what he played in In Bruges.

On a side note, I had to check IMDB because I knew I'd seen the waitress in the opening scene somewhere but could not place her. But she played Octavia in Showtime's short lived (2 seasons) Rome series, which if you have never seen you should definitely check out. I rank it along with Deadwood and Six Feet Under as some of the best stuff pay tv has ever put out, including Sopranos(which I admit paved the way).

Also, I recognized the actress who played Deirdre and found she played Carla Jean Moss in No Country For Old Men.

not specifically a colin farrell fan, but I thought "Cassandra's Dream" was quite good as well. and the one where he is in a phone booth. forget the name of that one.

I really enjoyed Clint in gran torino. What a great character.

It's called Phone Booth.

Actually I knew that. It's my silly sense of humor, you see.

Thought In Bruges was really overrated. Thought the lines that were meant to be funny were just a bit "crow-barred in" and laboured. Farrell is a poor actor and Ralph Fiennes was abysmal.

My over-riding memory of it is a scene towards the end where Ralph Fiennes has chased Farrell into the hotel where they are having a stand off at each end of the stairs. A clumsy attempt at comedy by two poor actors and even poorer comedians.

Gran Torino was quite good the first time but turned it off the second time.

PS: To be fair to In Bruges, parts of the film were entertaining but some moments were so bad I can't give it much credit...

Over rated by whom? It didn't win any awards or get very good reviews. I don't think an orphaned thread on an esl board counts as international acclaim.

I like Farrell a lot. You should check him out in Tiger Land. He could've gone the Hollywood blockbuster route and been cop number 2 in SWAT the rest of his acting days. Instead he chose to do something different.

I have to respectfully disagree about Fiennes. The man was genius/crazy in this role. The way he comes unhinged in the scene when he gets the phone call and in the cafe had me rolling on the floor with tears in my eyes.

This is one of my favorite scenes in the whole film! The dry manner in which the lines were delivered was awesome. The line where Fiennes says, "I don't want to come back up there to find you hiding in a cupboard", slayed me.

I hated Gran Torino. Just saying. My one word review at the time was "Overwrought".

Overrated by quite a lot of people I have talked to, it's gained quite a lot of momentum I think. I just thought it wasn't much good.

I don't think Gran Torino was that great either, mainly because of the poor actors in who played the Asian family. I didn't find it as bad as "In Bruges" though.

********** IN BRUGES SPOILER ALERT***********************

Though In Bruges was humorous in places, it wasn't really a comedy per se. IMDB has it listed as Crime/Drama/Thriller. Personally, I enjoyed it immensely as a study of Farrell's, Gleason's and Fiennes's characters. Farrell's relationship with the woman rang pretty true to me. But if I had to pick one of the lines that made me laugh, and there were many, it was when Gleason was about to whack Farrell, who was about to kill himself......

Ken:No, I wa - You were gonna kill yourself!
Ray: Well... I'm allowed.
Ken: No, you're not!
Ray: What? I'm not allowed, and you are? How's that fair?

Another great movie that came out around the same time as Gran Torino and In Bruges was The Wrestler with Mickey Rourke. If you've never seen it, I highly recommend it. Rourke got rave reviews, and Marisa Tomei is looking pretty good as an aging stripper.

If you never heard of multi oscar nominee 'the wrestler' please be sure to place your rock to its correct position when you crawl out from behind it.

Didn't think too much of the wrstler to be honest, it was very 'oscary' (if that's an adjective) the acting was great but the storyline lacked an impact or nervy ending
