This looks like someone (illegally) politicizing an issue. Where's the beef? There's nothing about falsifying data that I can find. Thin-skinned scientists calling people idiots is more like it.
And I guess people are idiots if they somehow believe these emails show global warming is a scam. |

The fact that a small group of researches colluded to prevent opposition groups from having their voices heard does not take away from the fact that man is having a large effect on the world. We produce tons of pollutants every year to the point that major cities have to issue warnings on high smog days. Pollutants from China can be measured on the western coast of the U.S. There is a massive dead zone of plastics circling in the Pacific Ocean. Just as Environmental groups have their segments that are trying to silence opposition voices, the other side has businesses pouring millions of dollars into politician's pockets and supporting opposition research. These are companies that are trying to escape the costs of cleaning up their acts.
Regardless of whether the Earth is going to suffer a cataclysmic event due to man's actions, there is no doubt that we are causing major damage to our planet. It's ridiculous to think otherwise. What do you have to lose if environmental legislation is passed? Will the cost be passed on to us? Tell me something else new. You should get mad about the processes of Capitalism, not the fact that we're doing something to make things better. |

Are you serious? How about my freedom! How about my right to have more than one child! How about MY COUNTRY! Have you READ the 200-page Copenhagan document, because I have. Get back to me when you have read it, okay? |

Gillian et al, check this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zORv8wwiadQ
The clip is 9 minutes long, so in case you can't be bothered I'll summarize it:
Just *in case* human induced climate change is real, we should guard against it.
Those emails are irrelevant. |

So, just in case the sky falls tomorrow, we should guard against that too. My problem with the whole Man-made global warming garbage is it has taken the attention, time, and MONEY away from the real environmental issues. Like the mess Texico left in Ecuador, and the mess that is being created in parts of Africa, and I could go on and on. These people are greedy con artists, snake-oil salesmen. They should go to prison. |

| Except that they did nothing wrong or illegal, just kind of questionable. I guess that's the new way, just like the old way, send everyone to prison (or better yet, kill them -- worked in indonesia!) and hope the problems just go away. These emails are about as much as a slam dunk as the evidence for WMD in Iraq. |

Well, I guess we are just reading them differently. I am reading corruption, intimidation toward other scientist in the "peer review" manipulation of data, out-right lies on how to manipulate the data, and I am not even half-way through them.
I don't know what you are reading..... |

This whole statement reeks of complete ignorance and paranoia. You should pack up your things and head over to asmith's bunker. If any of your claims did come true, you and all your gun-toting conspiracy friends can just start a revolution. What do you have to be scared of? |

Just to add, I've been searching around for these supposed facts that you speak of. In the 180 page document being proposed by the UN, there have been proposals put forth asking that this treaty would take precedent over the laws of individual countries (pretty rational to me considering the corruption the supersedes any actual efforts towards environmental protections in the U.S.) Here's your problem: many of the whack jobs that are running around screaming about this document are claiming that our "socialist" President is going to sign this treaty because it's a "socialist" document, and we all know that "socialism" is some great conspiracy by "fascists" to take over the world. Unfortunately for the "socialist" movement, the Senate has the power to ratify treaties. The health care debate alone has shown us that the Democrats aren't just a bunch of lap dogs for Obama, unlike the Republican congress of the best part of the last decade. There is no way that even if Obama did agree to a treaty that gave away our sovereignty (which he wouldn't) that the Senate would ever ratify such an agreement.
Taking away your rights? In what way? Instead of making blanket statements and claiming your read the thing, how about you point to actual passages that actually put any of us at risk. Then, show us where in any of Obama's policies that such recklessness has been demonstrated.
Here is what's going to happen for the uninformed. Our President is going to attend the meetings and try to mold the document into an agreement that works for our very Capitalistic country. Now, will his changes be as drastic as say the very corrupt Bush White House would have proposed? Not at all, but I promise you that any document would be much more moderate than any of you are giving credit for. Even then, this document will not be ratified by Congress because it requires a 2/3rds majority, which we can't even come close to getting with even a completely moderate health care bill. |

I think you're just projecting what you want them to mean. Hyperbole is always more fun than dry reality. |
