|
|
I have about 5,000 songs that I want to add BPM information to. I have looked on google for over an hour now and found nothing that'll work. Here's what I want:
1) Free, or free trial period of at least a few days
2) Automated adding of BPM information, not manual input (would take months on 5k songs), so I can set it up to work overnight
3) Works for Windows on iTunes
4) As little extras as possible (i.e. just adding BPM)
Unless you know of something as you are reading this post, you probably won't find anything in a 1-minute google search I haven't already found and discarded. I'm primarily looking for someone who's already gone through this and has found a good solution.
Thanks in advance for the help. |

Been using this for a while now. It's free, small and pretty accurate. It does have some problems with some VBR files though, but not many. It'll place the info in the ID3 tag and iTunes will automatically pick it up after you run the file through it. |

Thanks for the reply. I had rejected that program because it requires your email address to download it, but on your recommendation I'll try it out.
I read that to get the id3 tags read properly in iTunes you have to wipe your iTunes library, run mixmeister on all your songs, then reload your library. Is that right? That's another reason I initially rejected this program because that may take a long time with 5k songs, but if it can be done overnight then it's a compromise I'll have to make. |

Nope. I had my whole library on iTunes (about 60 gigs) and ran that program overnight (I think it only took a couple hours). It looks like at first that the BPM on iTunes didn't show up, but all you have to do is select the song on iTunes (you don't have to play it) and it'll show up in the BPM column.
And I've never gotten any email from them, although I have a email I set aside especially for websites/spam anyways. |

Ok, well that sounds better. You said I have to just select the song; can I hit ctrl+a to select them all at once and be done with it? Will the bpm be added then? |

bangbayed: thanks again for the suggestion, it worked but not quite as painlessly as I had hoped.
It took about 2 days for it to scan my entire library (my library's on an external HDD, which may account for the slowness). Then, to get them added to iTunes, I wasn't able to select them all. After a time they just all showed up, probably 10 minutes ago when I plugged my iPod in, pressed sync, and iTunes decided to WIPE MY IPOD AND SYNC EVERYTHING FRESH! Stupid iTunes. I'm not sure if that's a result of having added the bpm to all the songs or what.
Mixmeister did have some problems on a few songs, I think 20 or so overall, which isn't bad with 5k songs acquired from vary various sources.
Again, thanks for the recommendation, I would suggest it to others because, through this whole experience, iTunes (as usual) has been my primary source of frustration, not mixmeister. |

Ah, the sync option in iTunes. I think when I got my first iPod years ago, I fooled around with that, but there were only a few hundred megs of music, so it wasn't a big deal and I learned never to touch that again.
Yeah, Mixmeister works pretty well. And well worth the money too. |
