I didn't get a text when registering the phone. I just plugged it in and it worked.
About Skype, I think it's the same in all countries but not sure. I have never had an iPhone before. They don't allow it as I guess would slow down the network if everyone were doing it? Not sure. And ya, it would count towards your bandwidth. NESPOT is the KT wifi service and its everywhere, literally. Pretty sure it's unlimited, could be wrong though. I have been using the US app store without issues so far. |

| I just got my phone from my dealer in Ulsan. Apparently I got the first one here. Took about two hours from start to finish. The phone works great so far. I'll try and jailbreak it at some point and let everyone know how that goes. |

Did they give details on where the other 20,000 phones are? |

When you plugged it in and it asked for your itunes info, did you use your account and name or did you use your gf's? |

| Okay, so I got the Iphone, but it won't activate. My gf called KT and they said that I just need to wait for the text message to activate my phone. So it's been like 30 minutes and I'm still waiting. So for those of you who got your iphone, how long did you wait for the text. |
I was having the same problems ... I registered the iphone with a Korean friend, but used my own UK itunes account ....basically, inserted the USIM provided, then I just turned off my pc (macbook pro) and turned off the phone too ... then turned on my pc, then wait until it boots up then turn on your iphone, then open itunes...did this a few times before itunes accepted my iphone...it kept saying something this phone SIM is not supported or something like that ... keep trying it will work .. didnt get any text message tho?...not sure what they are going on about there???!! probably dont know themselves I reckon!! good luck with it |

I think the fact that I went in looking like a sad puppy dog last week helped me a lot, haha. |

Someone should make an iPhone sticky. Perhaps turn this thread into a sticky and rename it.
For those with iPhones, have you gotten GPS to work? Both Maps and Daum 지도 haven't been able to triangulate my location. Is this something specific to Ulsan, like towers needing upgrading (since it's assisted GPS) or something that will be enabled later on? |

Update:
I got GPS to work one time. I've tried ten times in different places and each time it fails. The one time it worked was when I was in downtown Ulsan (삼산동). I'm heading to Seoul this weekend so I'll test it there too.
The 3Gs is waaaaay faster than my old 3G. I don't wait for the interface to catch up to whatever the phone is doing. There used to be a delay between switching from Korean to English keyboards on my 1st-gen iTouch and on my old 3G; there is no delay on the 3Gs.
Text messaging works very well. I had a caller ID issue where it wouldn't show my phone number but SHOW fixed that when I went back to the shop. Though I tried to send an MMS and got a message back saying the other person's provider didn't support it (but it worked with my old Korean phone). I'll try testing MMS again in the near future.
Koreans seem to be impressed with the interface. It's a lot slicker than what they're used to. They're amazed that they can browse to any website. A buddy just bought an AMOLED and it doesn't look like you can go to any website, just preset ones. What trash. And it cost him 600,000 upfront on a contract.
"Daum 지도" app is pretty decent for finding stuff around you. The entire interface is in Korean so make sure you know what buttons do what. Alternatively, learn Korean. The only problem is that you can't double-tap to zoom; you have to pinch. And there's something funny about how the zoom works when you pinch. They'll probably fix that in due time, though.
On my wifi the phone hits about 15Mbps down, 3Mbps up (my upload sucks here). On 3G it's getting a consistent 1Mbps/100Kbps. The signal isn't great in my apartment but fortunately I have wifi. I'll re-test downtown and when I'm in Seoul. |

Thanks for the tips.
My girl has hers and she is connected to the apps store, which appears to be American, but the software and all the info about the applications comes up in Korean. Her phone is set to English. Did anyone else notice this? |

Another update before I sleep:
I used blackra1n to jailbreak but it's tethered. Newer 3Gs phones (such as all the ones sold in Korea) need to be re-jailbroken every time they reboot. I had 3G Unrestrictor on there to allow Skype over 3G but it's not worth it. If the phone crashes or needs a reboot I don't want to have to wait to get to a computer. I'll just wait until an untethered jailbreak comes out. |

How do you go about keeping your old phone number?
I got an SKT phone now, how can I keep the same phone number by signing up for Show?
Do I tell them when I sign up I want to keep my phone number? Do I even have a choice in the matter? |

It's pretty standard for people to keep their old number. They'll ask you what it is and transfer it over. That's what happened when I went from KT to SK. |

Don't bother going to CoEx a# or to the Show store there. I went today and was told:
Foreigners can't get iPhones.
Looks like you'd better ask your favorite Korean to do you a favor and put it under their name. |
