First of all, I am 25 and I am coming to Korea to save some money, see the world, and obviously gain some great experience. I originally was limiting myself to Seoul or Busan, but I no longer feel like I have to be in a HUGE city...although a decent-sized area would definitely be nice. I enjoy going out occasionally, but the party scene isn't something I am overly concerned about. If I want to find a place to grab a beer, I'm sure I can do that.

The position has some long hours, I believe it's around 9am-7pm, but it also seems to have some pretty decent pay. I think it's 2.6-2.8 mill per month. I have a Masters in Education and some experience tutoring a Korean boy in the states, so I'm thinking that could possibly help a little with the salary?

Anyway, could someone tell me a little about the area? I have looked at some of the older threads but I know the area changes a lot even if it is in the matter of a few years. I thought I read something about Bundang being a somewhat wealthy area, is that a good or bad thing for a teacher? I can imagine that the parents may be a little more pushy/demanding if they are pretty wealthy.


I guess I'm just looking for your opinion on the area and the possibility of me teaching there for my first overseas teaching experience.

- Are there a decent amount of other English-speaking people?
- Is there a nightlight (this is not very important, I am merely curious)
- Shopping, entertainment, other things to do??

Bundang is Ok. Much better air quality than Seoul or the rest of Seongnam City.

Ya, I'm not used to being in a big city at all. I have been to Chicago a few times but not since I was younger. The air quality in a city like Seoul is definitely something I'd have to get used to.

Good to hear it's not as big of an issue in Bundang.

Bundang was an enjoyable year for me.

Just to add-there's a subway line under construction from Bundang to south Seoul but it won't be ready yet for some time. That'll be quicker than the existing one which isn't bad as it is .The express busses are good, cheap and quick into Seoul as well.

Bundang is quite self-sufficient anyways.

It's quite different to Seoul in having a bit more space. Park drinking in Central Park is great in the spring with the cherry blossoms out by Tan Stream.

Obviously it depends on what part, but I'm just looking for a rough estimate...

Bundang is a large area comprised of several smaller neighborhoods. Lots of wealthy people live there. Those people get demanding, like you get leaned on to provide good grades whether the kids deserve it or not. You can take the subway but its a long haul, 1 hour plus. Express buses take a half hour when the traffic is good, three when the traffic is bad. Some people really like it.

Haven't been to Bundang for a while but there's no link to Yangjae (line 3)
