My boyfriend and I have been planning to move to Korea for months, and our recruiters are trying to get us something in the same area near Seoul. We finally found something in Ansan/Anyang, and are pretty much all set to fly out. I'm doing some last minute research and the only thing I can find about my school so far is a review telling everyone to avoid it. I'm really frustrated, and I haven't even started working there! Does anyone know how easy it would be to find a new job if this one doesn't work out, or if my recruiter can help me with any issues? They've been pretty good so far, and if it was just me I might ask them to find me a new job. But considering my boyfriend will be working fairly close, and it's taken us this long to find something... what to do? |

Was it only one review? What exactly did they say about it?
If it's several reviews, it'd probably be in your best interest NOT to go there. However, if it's just 1 single review, who knows. You never know the story behind some posts. Some people get emotional and exaggerate things. |

Here's the review:
Same drunken/racist owner as *named deleted* in Ilsan. School is sometimes placed under another name due to various infractions. NUMEROUS CONTRACT VIOLATIONS DO NOT WORK FOR THIS MONSTER.
I know it's just one review, but yikes. |

Ask for references from past or current employees and they may (hopefully) put your mind at rest.
IF they fail to provide such referees then it's a big red flag. |

Good idea here.
Have you signed the contract for the school yet?
If yes, I'm not sure how binding the contract is if you haven't come to Korea yet and had your passport stamped and Alien Registration Card (ARC) issued.
If no, spend a little more time researching schools and always ask to speak with one of the foreign staff.
If you decide to suck it up and go for it, then, as I advise many others, email yourself the details of any contractual violations. Be as specific in your observations because you never know what will be waiting for you down the line.
And in any case, best of luck. |

Where exactly are you going to? You mention Ansan, Anyang and Ilsan. These are 3 different areas not all that close to each other as far as transport works and all have their own local identity.Ilsan is on the other side of the Han river north west of Seoul and a long way from Ansan which is on the south west of the Han river wayout near the coast.
Where are you going ? To a different school to your boyfriend ? Has you recruiter put one of you in Ilsan and the other in Ansan?
Also if the review was for a franchise type hagwon like SLP or Wonderland you need to be reading somthing up to date and relevant only to the owner of the school you are dealing with.
Do you even know the hagwon owner's name as he will be the person sponsoring you?
Your posting seems to suggest you are not even sure of the process of the visa when you say you are about to fly out |
