What a howl. Hagwons looking for graduates from Harvard, Cambridge etc. to teach in their 'academy'. It's just so ludicrous in so many ways. Firstly, how does having a degree in chemistry from Yale make you a better ESL teacher? Yet, they'd gladly pick them up just to have that 'boasting right'. Pathetic. And it's not as if hagwons (sorry, 'academies') have anything to do with education. They're about profit. That's why, oh so often, they would happily throw the homely Oxford graduate under a bus if they could get a cute blonde with a C average from Moosehead University. Now if they can hire one cute blonde with a C average, and one bio-engineer from Harvard, the children would be getting the best ESL education possible.

It is all a game.
They will demand "Ivy" grads until they can get the next best thing:
Gyopo Ivy grads. |

Anybody who went to, and graduated from, an Ivy League college or a university like Oxford or Cambridge is hardly going to come here to teach at a hagwon. They might get someone who has a Cambridge TEFL, but that's it. |

There are probably more than we think, which is quite funny, actually. Pay over $100K in tuition to make $18/hour in Korea. Oh well, that is what the world is coming to.
I would venture to guess that 50% of those who claim to be Ivy League grads have fake degrees.
Fake credentials seem to be a rampant problem here, even among Koreans (ie Korean "professors" have been busted for faking their credentials) |

1. the ivy league does not include oxbridge. It's American.
2. I think the only people would be gyopos. I met a number of Koreans at school, but none of them were coming back to Korea to work at a hagwon. Most stayed in America, or some went back to universities in Korea and/or corporate jobs.
3. Depending on what they were studying at a university, and IVY league grad might come here and end up working at a hagwon. Asian studies majors spring to mind, though I never met one considering anything of the sort. Others might come here for research/language purposes. And I'm pretty sure philosophy majors are universally unemployable, no matter what athletic conference your school may play in. |

What are you guys talking about?
Every hagwon and public school in Korea already has a foreign English teacher from an IVY league univeristy.
At least that's what the mums of Korea have been told.
We're all IVY leaguers, Woohoo!!! My parents will be so proud . |

Don't knock Devry. Some graduates from that university are making big bucks fixing airplanes and things like that. From my high school, a guy who graduated at the top of our class is now doing exactly that. |
