I am currently in Seoul right now and my Korean is good enough to the point where I can communicate and negotiate directly in Korean. I feel like recruiters are not helping me any more than I could help myself. Are there any job boards or websites that I can go to where I deal directly with schools looking for teachers instead of having to deal wih recruiters in the middle?

I can read Korean as well so I can navigate Korean websites. The only thing is, I'm new to Korea and have no idea how or where you'd go to find schools looking for teachers without having to deal with recruiters.

Also, I'm interested in more than just teaching jobs here. Any Korean equivalent to monster.com or careerbuilder.com?

Godd question, i dont have an answer but would like to hear what people say about this and if recruiters really do bust their behinds to get you a job or not.

I used Google Earth and Google searches to find schools. Got my job through a school I found via a search on Google Earth.

Hi I'm very new to trying to work in Korea. I was given a recruiter who I hoped was a good connection but he has turned out to be something of a dud.......the shortest responses imaginable to questions I've emailed him on.
I've just been told by some other posters and another contact to try many recruiters.
If anyone's had good experiences with a particular recruiter I'd love to know.....

Working with recruiters is frustrating, and I tried and tried to avoid it, but so many schools are nervous to work with foreigners directly. I never want to work with a recruiter again, but I do understand why schools and hagwons get nervous about talking with foreigners (and most of them have a difficult time speaking in English).

I just wanted to reply to you because I have to leave Korea suddenly because of a personal situation, and my hagwon does not want me to leave until I find a replacement. I am trying to leave sometime in mid January, and in the mean time I am trying to find a replacement.

I work at a great hagwon in Seoul, and they run things very professionally. I want to help them in any way I can. So, I noticed that you are looking for a job, and my school is not working with a recruiter because they want me to do the recruiting. I also live in a wonderful apartment, and I have wonderful students. My coworkers are great too, and I am the only foreigner at my school, so my coworkers would also love that you speak Korean. If you might be interested in a job .. and you don't have to use a recruiter, let me know! I don't know if it would be what you are interested in, but I have really enjoyed my experience at this particular hagwon.

What kind of teaching job are you looking for? Hagwon, public school, university, unigwon, children, adults, special testing?


Regarding "other" types of jobs, you could try worknplay.co.kr, or koreajoblink.com, or koreapot.com.


If you have that ability in language, why aren't you just going into the schools directly and talking to them face to face?

I'm new to the ESL thing in Korea too. I found a job myself without recruiters within 2 weeks through a website called worknplay.com

There are a bunch of new job postings every day but each one gets hundreds of hits. Some of them are recruiting agencies and some are schools.

I would warn people to be careful though- I sent info to one email address and it turned out to be a spammer. the email address was [email protected] There were a couple addresses that were very similar just a couple letters were off. I would avoid any of those especially when it says they prefer email no phone calls.

Oh and there were also a couple "recruiting agencies" that I contacted via email but the same 2 girls kept calling me back even though they had different company names. I started noticing their names pop up on several listings and their phone numbers were the same. So be on the lookout and keep notes of the people you talk to and their numbers.
