Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has had any experience working at GKI School, specifically at the Olympic Park location. The salary is decent, and it seems pretty standard as far as large Hagwons go. As this is my second year teaching in Seoul, I am hesitant about many of the positions I'm being offered, but am drawn by the salary and location of this one.

Any information about this school would be helpful.

Thanks!

Speaking from personal experience it's a decent hagwon. Pretty large and well established. About 20 foreign teachers and maybe 10 or so K teachers. Pay is always on time. No problems there.

Standard hagwon hours - about 30 per week. Kindy + elem.

Housing is not great, but ok. Some apts are better than others. It's luck of the draw.

Vacation is 1 week winter, 1 week summer.

The director can be a tyrant sometimes, but if you keep your head down and do your work well, then you'll probably be ok. But if there is ever any problem with him he will not let you forget it! If you've been in Korea already then you know the type I'm talking about.

Other than him, it's a good gig. Friendly people, good location. Close to Jamsil for shopping, etc. It doesn't feel as crowded in that area of the city. And of course Olympic Park is great to have close by.

Lots of teachers have been there for 2 or 3 years or more, so that says something about the place. I think you could do a lot worse than GKI. Just be as flexible and accomodating as you can be. Smile

Can anyone update about their experiences at GKI Olympic Park? I've read mixed things, lots of horrible, some not bad, a few great...but most of the horrible things were from 2009-ish.
