After I've written all this out,
I see my friend's posted my issue here for me .. haha
but here's my question :
I am (or was .. ?) a dual citizen of Canada and Korea.
I lost my passports from both countries (they had expired anyway)
but because of the longer process I would've had to go through
to get a new birth certificate for the Canadian passport
(I was born in Quebec before 1994),
I replaced my Korean passport in time to leave the US.
Then the ATL consulate told me they shouldn't have issued it
because I am 21 and my Korean citizenship had been revoked
and that I should have shown them my birth certificate.
I was never asked for it and they really should
run checks on people so as not to waste their time
or my time - and money.
Who knows how many other people they issued passports to
who "shouldn't have been issued one."
Now I'm just venting ..
So I called the Houston consulate and the Korean embassy
and they told me my passport is valid until I turn 22.
I called the Atlanta consulate back
and told them I checked with other places
and that they told me my Korean citizenship is valid
until I turn 22 - to this, they said, "I guess we were wrong."
I wish they would all just stop guessing and
somebody, anybody, would tell me
straight up facts -
I am set to leave the US in 4 days
and I don't have time to get the replacement birth certificate
and then the Canadian passport -
Regardless, my Korean passport will be void in a month
should the Houston Korean consulate and
the Korean embassy have been correct about the age.
I know that the Canadian citizenship is permanent
as long as it is not formally given up,
but the Korean one is automatically lost at 21 - or 22.
The consulate told me I need to fill out a form
called "losing citizenship in Korea" or
something along those lines.
So I asked them if I would still be a Korean citizen
if I had not / do not fill out the form
and they said no ..
so if I have already lost my citizenship
or will be losing it regardless, why do I need to fill out that form ??
And if I choose to reclaim my Korean citizenship,
how would I go about doing that ?
And does Korea require
my giving up of the Canadian citizenship ?
They are not helping clarify anything,
and I'm sure there are other people
who are more knowledgeable than
the clueless people at the consulates.
Please, let me know if anyone has info,
Thanks

You lost your passports. They were expired anyway. If this is all true you shouldn't be allowed out of your backyard. Find a place to live and stay there. |

How can anyone help you if you are too dense to present your problem in a coherent way? |

People wanted to help you but your idiotic style put everyone off. Now your moronic attitude will make sure nobody helps you in the future. |
