I read something like that too, and even held off buying one back in October or so, but a co-worker at school has one and he swears it works on the 3G networks here. He even said he used it on the subway. |

it does work off the 3g network. got mine today and have been playing with it all day. even the web browser works, albeit quite slowly...
so, if you can get one shipped to korea, everything works. |

| What I'm hearing is that even if the WiFi doesn't work, you can still download books on your desktop PC and then put them on your Kindle. |

the new kindle does not have wifi. it only uses cell networks...but yea, if the cell network doesnt work, you can download from a computer. its actually cheaper as you pay an extra $3 a book to download using the 3g network in korea.
and yea i've been downloading books all day. everything seems to work, except the web browser, which has been working on and off...it might only work on certain networks here in korea.
so far, i'm really happy with it. the screen looks like paper so its easy on the eyes. its a little slow navigating around and it took me a bit to get used to not having a touch screen. it only needs power to render the page, so in standby mode, it turns into a gray shaded random book cover or picture of a random author. so far, i've had jules verne, mark twain, the prince...it just looks cool.
i'm a total book *beep*. this will NEVER replace written media for me, but its great to have as i'm always switching between books or need a book immediately. you can also download samples for free and read the first chapter before you buy the book...
i'd definitely recommend it for anyone who reads alot or needs to have a massive library at hand. |

| I'm quite pleased with my new Sony Reader PRS-300. It isn't fancy, but it serves its purpose well enough and the battery lasts forever. |

I bought my Sony PRS-300 new on eBay for $165 less 10% Bing cash back. The total amount was about $150 with free shipping to Seattle. I had my mom bring it with her when she visited me in October. It is a great device, but the screen is only 5" vs the 6" screens on the Kindle and PRS-600. It is very portable, though. I often put it in my jacket pocket when I am not using it. It's the best purchase I've made recently, I use it almost every day. It looks like you can buy the PRS-505 on gmarket, but it's a bit more expensive at 429,000 won. I don't think you can get the PRS-300 in Korea. |

I'm stateside, and got it for $199.99 at Best Buy. It is entirely too easy to use, and once you get the rhythm of turning pages down, you'll burn through books faster than ever (unless you actually know how to speed-read with retention, then you'll whine about the one second delay between page flips). Were I in Korea, I would not regret paying the gauging price to get one off gmarket.
Pretty much everything tatertot said about it was dead on. It's portable, made of metal, easy to use, and the best purchase a book reader could make. I'm going to miss visiting What the Book and lugging a dozen books back to my apartment. |

| Where do you download your books? I tried figuring out the Google Books site but was dead confused. I've decided that this will be my end-of-contract gift to myself. That'll nicely coincide with my parents visiting. |

My concern with getting a Kindle 3G is that the 3G will work in both Canada and Korea. Not so concerned about downloading books through 3G though (I can always wait and use wifi). The cool thing about 3G is being able to check email from anywhere.

Did you buy your Kindle in Korea? Check your box and manual, and tell me if your version is B006 or B00A. |

I am not sure what you mean by this? My wifes new kindle 3 has wifi which she accesses via our home wireless router. We didn't bother getting the 3G version because we just didn't see the point in paying extra for something we really didn't need. |

Sorry, that's completely wrong.
The new kindle is either wifi only, or wifi plus 3g. The wifi only kindle is a few bucks cheaper. |
