Although I'm slated to work for a private elem school in 2010, I am already looking toward applying for uni positions in 2011. My best friend, is trying to schedule her 2011 wedding date during one of my vacation periods (I'm supposed to be her maid of honor; wedding will be in the US). I realize that not all uni teachers will have off in the same months, but can anyone give me an idea of "typical" months off?

Thanks!

My university is quite typical, I think. We don't have classes in January or February, or in July or August. There is some admin work for a week or two at the beginning or end of those periods, but you can probably roughly count on those times.

You've probably heard this enough, though; caveat emptor with university positions. Bad ones will have less vacation time or mandatory camps.

You can add the month of September to the above, plus perhaps an extra week at the end of both December and June (not quite sure how typical this is though). Don't think it's unusual, but I imagine the four months listed in the previous post are a safe-bet.
