This forum seems to prefer hagwon teaching in general, but this video makes them sound awful. |

Those two are GEPIK representatives, worth bearing in mind. |

I'm currently in the application process and I've spent a lot of time trying to decide between public schools and hagwons and it seems like it just depends on the school/teacher. I love the eatyourkimchi.com videos but Simon and Martina have never worked at hagwons and they have had good experiences at their public schools. Other teachers will have different experiences.
I think people tend to defend whatever they are familiar/comfortable with, which makes sense because you can't really review something you've never experienced.
I'm currently applying to public schools mostly because I don't want to worry about the school closing or not paying me.

There seems to be some confusion in terms going on. A private school is just like a public school, but it is privately owned, usually run by a family. A hakwon, often called an academy by Koreans, is a private outside-of-school business that offers classes in language education (and math, science etc in some of them but not usually the ones foreigners work at). |

That's a good point. Simon and Martina are referring specifically to Hagwons according to the sidebar on that video. |
