Hi All. I was wondering if anyone has been to Thailand, what is the best way to exchange money. I've had people tell me that its better to change WON to Dollars and then to Bhat once you arrive. Other people told me its no problem exchanging WON anywhere in Thailand.
One more question.. Has anyone been to Cambodia? Do you need to get your visa before you leave, or can you do it once you get there??
Thanks!! |

DO NOT TAKE WON OUT OF KOREA. You WILL get killed on the exchange rate. Take dollars or Euros. Dollars are the easiest to deal with. Nice, newm crispy $100 notes are the best. |

hi, i haven't been to cambodia yet but i'm going in a few weeks. you can get a visa on arrival. they are $20. apparently if you go to certain thailand-cambodia land crossings there is a scam and it ends up being $30. and it's best to pay in dollars for this. bring passport photos as well.
i've never changed money in thailand, but this summer i went to the philippines and had to change won to pesos because the ATM in the airport was out of cash. and the rate was painful. i recommend dollars. |

Hey, can you change won to USD at Incheon International? The reason being, I'll be getting paid on the Friday and then heading out on the Saturday, so I don't have time to traipse about town looking for the best exchange (unless there's something open Friday night). Otherwise, duh, I wouldn't exchange at the airport. Thanks
Also, is it true that KEB cheque cards won't work overseas anymore? |

I'm heading to Thailand next week, and I'm going to the bank and exchanging my money from Won to U.S dollar at my local bank (NH bank btw) and most places will have U.S dollar to give you.
Anyone know, other than the airport, where I can exchange my U.S dollars to Baht in Thailand? Trying to look for the best possible exchange rate. |

I agree most of the time with this, but last time I went to Thailand about 2 months ago, I actually got a better rate exchanging Korean won directly to Thai bhat (than KRW>USD>THB process) through one of the Superrich branches (those legal `black market` places). There is one by Siam square.
I haven`t checked the rates lately in Korea for THB but you can compare it with the rate in Thai`s Superrich branches and work out if you will lose more/get a favorable exchange.

but yeah, in general....USD or EUR are easier to deal with. The bank rates in Thai/places on Khao San are not that favourable.
If you do exchange to KRW>USD in Korea though, don`t do it at the airport. The Airport`s rate is definitely worse. |

Hey,
Where's a good place to exchange a few wons for dollars (in Korea)?
I work during banking hours. Is there anything open Saturday or weekends? I just don't want to show up in Thailand with NOTHING but KRW (unless if the airport exchange is good... I heard the airport in Bangkok is not a bad place to exchange) |
