Its cheap for many Japanese and Chinese tourists to come on tours here.

Its also right next door to China and Japan, so there should be many tourists here.

That list is way different than I thought it would be... I though Japan would be in the top ten, Korea wouldn't even be on the charts and... Ukraine at #8? I've never heard of anyone ever visiting there before.

I might just be thinking of places where I know North Americans go without accounting for everyone else... Still surprising.

France is #1. France sucks.

I disagree. I went to the Cote D'Azur, in the south, and I like it. I preferred Italy, but I still liked southern France. France is actually a good place to visit. It has lots of art, architecture, museums, decent food, and good wine.

I've just heard of a lot of stories that went like this:

"I can't wait! I'm flying to Paris for a few weeks."

A while later...

"How was Paris?"
"Uhm, it was okay I guess. Everything was expensive, people were rude and we got mugged... but it was okay. Sorta. Pretty buildings."

French people were rude to me too until they discovered that i wasn't American. Then they instantly changed and became very helpful.

It's not that they hate Americans, it's just that french culture has strict protcols of how to approach someone. One must always say "Bonjour" or "Excusez-moi" before attempting a question in french. They'll react negatively to someone just approaching and saying "HEY MAN, YOU KNOW WHERE THE LOUVRE IS?"

As for Korea being a tourist destination. I think it will be a good thing for the average korean to interact more with non-koreans.

I'm surprised canada does as well as it does.

In europe and asia places are so close and cheap that it is trivial to go somewhere for the weekend, but other than the northern Americans, canada doesn't really have that kind of area to draw on. In europe you could hit several countries in a weekend no problem.

You need to read those charts with a huge grain of salt. Also, what a "tourist" is needs to be defined. Look at China: 4th in the world at over 50 million even though its far away from wealthy travelling countries, visas are problematic, and its surroung countries are poor. Must be the Chinese diaspora coming home to visit family.
Also how does the EU passport affect these numbers? Can they accurately track the nationalities of people travelling on EU passports?

In what way does France suck? Where exactly did you go in France that you felt was unworthy of your visit?

I am American and have been to Paris several times. I don't speak French and I never once encountered someone being rude to me. I think that in most countries in the world you are very rarely treated rudely without some sort of provocation.

Anyone who has been to Paris and does not consider it to be one of the most beautiful and most magnificent cities in the world is clearly some sort of caveman.

A 2008 survey showed that 42% of South Koreans had never interacted with a foreigner before in their lives.

I guess it depends what is meant by "interacted"... ? Lots of people have never spoken to outsiders. Some have never seen one.
