Why can't you guys get it into your thick skulls that just because someone speaks in favour of a particular course it does not mean they have a commercial interest in promoting it. Can you please stop coming out with this everytime the CELTA is discussed. It's getting boring. |

Cosmic Hum,
So let me get this straight...you're insulting me because I'm just a person taking the course? And I come on Dave's and ask some questions and you're saying I"m here to promote the course?
You've got self-esteem problems buddy. |

Does your university (or school) value CELTA?
Do they pay extra salary for employees that have a CELTA?
or
Does having a CELTA help someone get a job where you work?
I've noticed job ads categorizing CELTA as if it was "just some" average TESOL certificate. To me, this would imply most employers don't value CELTA.
Please make any comments that you would for or against having a CELTA.
Cheers. |
...geeze...can you say the word CELTA?
...give it a rest already...no need to project your obvious insecurities onto me. |

I'll change the original post just for you. I feel sorry for you... your job must really be in jeopardy if you act like this.
It's okay for you to say MA TESOL and everyone can ask about MA TESOL and have threads about MA TESOL.... right?
But that's not advertising. That's not promoting.
Cling to your job with all your might.... I'm guessing you're one of the guys who knows he's going the way of the dinosaur soon. |

yes...there is no doubt your ability to communicate effectively is rather limited...perhaps the celta course you are taking now will do you some good. |

So what course would you do if you were an American living in the states and you wanted to teach adults EFL in South America for example? |

By the way I find these two quotes quite ironic

Reason #10: The CELTA is too damned expensive |

Then, in a few weeks, I'll be teaching some 70,000 per hour business courses also sponsored by my school -- 4 hours per day -- or about 2.8 million worth in 2 weeks |
You think it's fine for you to rake in more than better qualified CELTA trainers would in the same amount of time with just a BA and then complain that they're ripping you off. Nice |
7 years of experience teaching every age from Kindy to Adults, plus I'm 1 course and a 2 semester thesis/project away from finishing my MA/TESOL.
Once again, you don't know anything about me, and you're just selling something. CELTA smugness at its best.
"Just take this 1 month course (and pay us over 2.2 million won) and you too can think of yourself as a superstar."
Sorry, Edward, it's a good course but it's extremely expensive, not necessary in Korea, and useless to me in the USA. As mentioned, it's not even part of the requirements for a public school position in the country from which it originates. It's also a sad fact that you'll be hard-pressed to find many countries requiring a CELTA that will pay you a decent wage. The ONLY exception seems to be a few Mulsim countries where you live in a compound, are treated like a servant, and can't enjoy basic freedoms of life.
It's JUST a TEFL course. When your trainers start shooting gold bars out of their butts, I'll be impressed. |

Sigh, once again I've never done the CELTA have no interest in it commercially and and am not, nor ever have been a CELTA trainer. But I do know a few people who are and they're all better qualified and experienced than you . So I'm curious do you think you're 'extremely expensive' at 70,000 an hour? Or maybe you can do the thing with the gold bars? |

Yeah, right. No commercial interest. A new angle after your last sock was banned.
Exiting thread. No more need to waste my time with you. My point has been made. I'll let my employers decide what I'm worth per hour (in this case, the Seoul city gov't). |

That's a cop out. My question was whether you think you are worth that amount of money. As someone with no teaching qualifications. |
