Apparently they got new vendors at Incheon. All new restuarants, shops etc. In August, I went through customs and then walked all over looking for a bookstore, they use to have a nice one there, but could not find anything except a few magazines and books on Korea. It is my habit to buy a book in the bookstore to read on the plane. Yes, I could do this elsewhere and cheaper, but finding a book is ritual for me and helps kill time while waiting for the flight. Unless I missed something, Incheon does not have a good bookstore with English books. I have never been in an International airport, except Cambodia and Ckark field, that did not have a nice size bookstore.
Overall, I was quite displeased with the new vendors and what they had to offer. I liked the old ones much better. Now, there are only a few places to have a beer before the flight and those are in restuarants. Before they had some nice bars (very expensive).
I would venture to say that the new vendors are there to cater to Korean tastes rathe than international tastes. It is more like a domestic terminal.
Compare Thailands new airport to Incheons, or Hong Kongs or Singapore's. Totally different league. |

I have to say that I disagree with your feeling on incheon. I love that airport and I can spend hours in it doing nothing. The food is typically Korean, which is fine since we are in Korea, but kind of boring. As for the bars...if you fly out of the "other" terminal...where you have to take the shuttle...there is a great place for pints of beer for only 4,000 and thats for 500cc's. In the other terminal, it tends to be more expensive, but if you don't mind cans...up by the McDonald's its only 4,000 for the can.
I tend to bring my own books since Korea doesn't really offer the kind of books I like. |

Anyone complaining about ICN likely wasn't around for the bad old days when Kimpo was the international airport. Terrible place, though now that it's the domestic airport it's somehow not so bad. |
