So, originally I was gathering everything together to teach ESL at a hagwon for an E-2 visa. Then an awesome position opened up for me in my field at an international school (Math/Science) that I am accepting. If I am not mistaken, I need an E-7 visa, correct? If so, what paperwork do I need to send over to Korea? My C.V. shows that I've been working in the field since 2001, and they can trace my employment history there. Do I need to provide anything else besides transcripts, degrees, etc.? Can someone help me with this? Thanks!  |

| i wouldn't be surprised if, even though they can trace your employment history, they ask you to get a form from each of the companies you worked for stating you did in fact work for them and for how long you did so. there's a standard form that korean companies use in that situation i believe, but if you're listing work from outside of korea that is necessary for you to fulfill the visa requirements, you may be asked to provide a letter/statement of some kind from them as well. i'm not sure if this will all be true as you are applying to work in an international school instead of an actual company, but i believe this is the standard protocol for getting an e-7 visa for work in a company. |

Yum...I love hoop jumping. I have the recruiter in Korea looking into it as well. I know she was calling the consulate to find out. I just know that we are all trying to get me over there "ASAP," however this is making "ASAP" sound like a few weeks. |

| When my friend got an E-7 visa he just needed to submit his resume with references that showed he had the previous experience necessary to obtain the visa. This of course is in addition to all the other documents you need to submit for an E-2 visa. |

References as in written letters of recommendation, or just actual history on the resume for them to review and contact? My difficulty is that my most recent position was not in education but in a laboratory setting for the past two years. However, I did voluntarily teach at a school for a semester in 2009, and I can contact them and get a letter of recommendation drafted vouching experience and capabilities, but as for everyone else that is back in 2006-2007 and later. My contacts have all pretty much moved on to other locations and the best they could do is contact H.R. etc. to verify that I worked there and whatnot. |

Thinking about it further has me interested in which school you are applying/being hired with. Shoot me a pm if you don't want to share with everyone here. I am international school teacher myself, but I have an F2 visa while in Korea. I am in China atm though, so I couldn't ask someone what the deal is for the E-7 as it stands with today's immigration. |

According to that website, you need a teaching certificate in your home country and 2 years experience. (and of course a BA)
That isn't true though as I know someone working at Pusan International School who isn't certified and he got the job he has. Also, he had less than 2 years experience teaching. He did have 2 years+ experience in a non-teaching way in regard to his area of teaching.

I assume that this means that the previous math/science teacher left in the middle of the academic year. |

Possibly, but from what I found it suits me and my interests rather well. I'm a hard person to deter. The pros far outweigh the cons for me in this case.
BTW: Mr. Pink, I don't have enough posts to P.M., but maybe if you could P.M. me instead? I would like to pick your brain a bit.
