A Korean colleague showed me at the convenience stores that you can buy little bottles of hangover remedy or cure or something like that. He said that you drink these when you have a hangover and it makes the hangover go away. Apparently they contain traditional Korean medicine.
That sounds a bit dubious to me, but I'm curious if anyone else has ever tried these? Do they work? Do they really "cure" a hangover? Or is it just a stimulant (coffee or taurina, maybe?) and sugar? Do they contain something to make you feel good so that you don't notice the headache and nausea? Maybe a little codine or morphine or something? Or is it just a placebo and a high dosage of BS.
Other than being attached to a dialysis machine I really don't know how you could get over a hangover once it's started. By the time you have a hangover, your blood is filled with the alcohol. I can't see how an pill or liquid could change that. I suspect that at best it just treats the symptoms of the hangover and makes you feel better. But I'm skeptical about whether something that you can buy at a 7/11 could legally contain the necessary ingredients to do even that. If they really do work, I'm sure that someone would have long ago made a huge profit exporting them to sell to college students throughout the world.
Anyone out there have any experience with these potions? |

Dawn 808 Hangover Solution isnt too bad. Treats symptoms pretty effectively and relatively quickly (<60min). No severe crash later like from excessive caffiene. |

If there was a true hangover cure then it would be flying off the shelves everyday in every country of the world.......fact is, there is no hangover cure. Just stuff to treat the symptoms.....headache pills, stomach antacids.......basically Resolve...... |

I'm not sure what you're describing here.
Hangovers, by definition, are just a collection of symptoms that occur AFTER the alcohol has already been metabolized through your liver. By the time you have a hangover, you don't have any alcohol left in your blood stream. What you do have is dehydration, headache, irritation of the stomach and the byproducts of the metabolic process which can cause other assorted aches and pains.
Or am I just misreading what you wrote?

Condition (green bottle) helps sometimes. Like eamo said, there is no such thing as a hangover cure, but it does seem to reduce the effects. |

Exactly. Alcohol in the blood=intoxicated/drunk. |

I think Morning Care is pretty good. A little expensive though. Don't think it's caffinated. If it is it's just a little. I can down one right before bed and sleep fine.
From what I've read, most of the 'cures' have milk thistle in, which protects your liver or something. |

You are right. For the most part the symptoms of a hangover take place after the alcohol has been metabolised. But there are other chemicals in your body while you are suffering a hangover. As well there may still be unmetabolised alcohol in your blood by the time that you are heading home from the bar/party (ie. the hangover can start while you are still drunk). As I understand it, some of these remedies are taken on the way home from the bar (yes, while you are still drunk) but some the morning after.
What i wanted to know was whether anyone had experienced these convenience store remediess and if they found them successful. I also wonder if these remedies only make you feel better, or if they really do contribute to reducing the cause of the hangover symptoms (do they help rehydrate you, get oxygen to your brain, clean the remaining chemicals from your body). |

Morning Care works wonders for me, especially if I take it before I go to sleep. Doesn't taste good, but I'll take the Pepsi challenge with that stuff any day. |

The best hangover cure is a little *mary jane. Alas, you wont find any of that in this country.
I fight them here by just trying to get as much into my system as possible. Meaning, to flush out the booze by giving my body more things to process. Tons of powerade or gatorade to start. Then, the only food I can usually keep down is pastry stuffs, doughnuts, cakes, etc.. If I can hold all that for a couple of hours, a burger, fries, and coke puts me just right.
I never get headaches with hangovers though. It just doesn't happen for me. I always get the nausea and weakness.
So yeah, eat and drink a lot. That's been my rule. |

Lucky you.
The Koreans say that haejanko (my computer doesn't have hangeul) is the best thing for hangovers; I don't know whether anyone agrees. |
