What are the cheapest urban international destinations for vacation out of SK? I am talking flight costs moreso than other expenses like hotels, food, taxis, etc. Would the top three be Hong Kong, Tokyo, and Bangkok? Where else?
Is Australia as expensive as it seems to be when I do a cursory price check on the internet? A Seoul to Sydney flight seems as expensive as a New York-Sydney flight. |

Just for flight costs, offhand:
Taipei.
Macau (if you count that separately from Hong Kong)
Shanghai
Manila (via specifically Cebu Air)
Singapore (seemingly)
I actually always thought the flight costs to Tokyo were quite high, especially given the proximity. |

cheapest for flights are probably:
Shanghai (China Eastern)
Taipei (Cathay Pacific)
Osaka (Jeju Air, Asiana, Korean Air and I think Jin Air are starting soon too)
Beijing (China Southern)
Qingdao or some of the other Chinese cities on the Yantai Peninsula
Bangkok (Jin air is starting a lowish-cost flight just before christmas)
Try Kakak.com for flights and check the individual airlines for special offers. |

^ What he said. Much more specific than my response.
Though I'd throw in (if you can navigate the site - or know someone who can) always check www.onlinetour.co.kr (requires IE, not firefox)
Barring some of the special sales, it has the lowest prices of any option for flying out of Korea, and I'm very well versed in using US-based sites - but for travel originating in Korea, I can rarely do as well.
Last test was a thread on here asking about a one way to Dallas (he was getting $1,000+) - on onlinetour.co.kr there's a flight for $600... |

I just got really lucky with a flight on the 26th to the 30th (round) for ...including taxes...$426 US. Flying through United. I saw a cheaper one through a Korean website, but I didn't have anyone at my school who could help me get that one. I think it was 255,000 and not sure if it was round trip. |

Pretty good. This was to Tokyo? And what was the site where you found this fare...expedia? |

Manila or Cebu, on Cebu Pacific. You can get round trip for 300,000 inc. taxes.
Shanghai can be cheaper if you get lucky.
If you are purely looking for a cheap way to get out (maybe a visa trip?), the boat from Busan to Fukuoka or Tsushima is a bit cheaper. |

Amusingly enough, United.com. The 255,000won was onlinetour.co.kr I think. |

I found really cheap tickets to Bangkok through Cathay Pacific.
Its costing me about 450,000W which isnt THAT cheap but I also booked the flight less than 10 days from when I expected to travel. |

small update....
Jeju air is going to Bangkok now too, I had a quick check, around 565,000 for return....but their website is still only in Korean.
Eastar Jet (low-cost to Jeju) are supposed to be starting to Kuching (Malaysia Borneo) but nothing on the website yet. And its all in Korean too.
Jin Air are talking about flying to Macau and Guam but as of yet haven't started. Seems the low-cost operations out of Korea are finally getting going. If only Air Asia would start flights to Incheon......... |
