I wouldn't take that job.
Finishing at 10 every day will really annoy you after a while.
Like another poster suggested working 2-7 or 8 would be much better.
And you also say its a 40 nour week
So you'd be working 2-10 everyday!!!
thats nuts in my opinion -you shouldnt be signing up for any more than 100 teaching hours a month and 120 hours of actual working time a month (if even!) - I worka total of 100 hours a month (1-6 every day) |

Haha. Isn't 'gochu' also slang for....
Anyway, I used to finish at 10:30. I didn't mind it. There were restaurants and bars still open. But I don't think I could work 40 hours a week at a hagwon. Mainly because you would probably have to get in to work an hour or so earlier than 2 to prepare for classes. |

| I worked those hours. They turned into more of a noon to 4 am schedule. I could never get up early to do things. I also couldn't just go to bed after a couple hours after work. Unless you enjoy being a "nightowl" then don't do it. |

| I liked the hours. You can occasionally catch a late night / midnight showing of a movie. Easy to go out for drinks. I like sleeping in and not waking up before the sun rises. That's just me though. |

I'm public school so my working hours are 8:30am-4:30pm.
I remember on weeknights I would be kept awake until 3am because the Hogwan teachers would be drinking loudly at the convenience store in front of my building from 11pm-3am.
Since they could sleep in every day, every night was a party night. |

Yes!
But...I meant the actual pepper. Oh, Lordy, was it terrible. I was eating galbi, drunk, and I decided to grill a pepper. Then I touched mucus membranes and almost died. That junk stays under your fingernails for a few days, no matter how much you scrub. I got a few nasty surprises in the shower from that lingering spice! |

Hey everyone. I was thinking of accepting a job in Cheongju. The working hours are from 2 to 10 but I was worried that this would mean no time to explore the city during the week and the days would feel like 14 hour days. I'm from Canada where restaurants close at 10 or 11 and bars close at 2am. Would it be like this over in Korea? Or would I still be able to go out to restaurants/catch a movie after work and so on. What do you guys think? All the job offers I've received so far are from 1 to 9 or 2 to 10 so I don't know if I should hold out for a 10am to 6pm job. (Experience would be better at the 2 to 10pm whereas 10am to 6pm would be almost like babysitting, I assume at least). What do you think?
Thanks in advance! |
a lot of restaurants will be closed by 10, but almost anywhere you can drink at will be open and they sometimes have good food. as far as seeing the city/countryside either wake up early or keep your weekends free. If you are just a drinking and partying person than it doesn't matter when you get off work, because you'll always have hundreds of options everyday of the week |
