Curious to if anyone had any airline recommendations. Particularly when it comes to luggage issues. I'd be flying out of Chicago, if it matters.

love korean air. always great service and i've never had any problems with luggage. they've also upgraded me once to business class, whereas other airlines seem to rather leave empty business class seats instead of upgrading frequent fliers and making a few people a bit happier.

Asiana is really good. I had two overweight bags and they didn't say anything. Newer planes, good inflight entertainment and service. They're just a good airline in general.

Don't know about other airlines but Malaysia Airline allows 46kg check-in baggage allowence + 20kg carry-in baggage allowence if you're departing from North/South America.

And where you depart from does play a huge role when it comes to luggage allowence. If you're with Malaysia airlines and is departing from anywhere else, you're only allowed 20kg check-in and, 5 or 10kg carry-in.

In my opinion, Singapore Airlines is the best airline in Asia if not the world. You can get some good flight deals that have you departing San Francisco.

I've heard Singapore is good, but flew only Asiana & Korean Air.

Korean Air all the way- service, attendants Wink , movie choice

Asiana Confused - in flight games were better, prices a little lower.

Asiana followed closely by Korean Air. I used to be happy with JAL, but with all their financial trouble as of late, I'd be hard pressed to fly with them right now, even if it is an unreasonable opinion.

I'd rather swim than fly NorthWest again. Never had flight without some sort of delay or problem.

My advice would be to just stay away from the US Airlines...they are all having difficulty, which means your flight is just going to be that much harder. I've heard Singapore is the best, followed by Cathay Pacific and then Korean Air.

I do love flying Korean Air - its a completely different feel from anything in the US.

Based on a dozen or so trips between the US and Asia...

1st - Singapore: Great service, bigger-than-average seats and more legroom. Nice entertainment options, no delays. Free alcohol.

2nd - Asiana: Comfortable seats, on-time, good service. Free alcohol.

3rd - Korean Air: This may be a bit unfair since I flew a 772, an older plane. It wasn't that comfortable (even though I had a bulkhead seat) and service was average. Free alcohol.

I wouldn't fly any other airline if I could help it. That said, Continental was the best American airline I've flown.

Northworst just sucks (flown three or four times, both from Korea and Japan)--rude / old+ugly flight attendants, delays, lost luggage, $7 for a beer.

American Airlines wasn't much better, either--expensive alcohol, slightly less-rude flight attendants, delays and cancellations--my last flight was supposed to take 18 hours from point A to point B but ended up taking twice that.

Delta--flown ONCE (never again). Flight was delayed TWICE (departing and connecting)! Of course they lost my luggage. Can't remember anything else.

Whatever is cheapest!!! That is how everyone on earth picks their flights, isn't it?

But if you are rich, or if it is on somebody else's dime, then the simple rule to remember is:

#1- Any airline from Asia
#2- Any airline from the rest of the world (minus the US)
#3- Any airline from the US

I flew Singapore once and it was the best Airline I've ever been on. GREAT service.

Came to Korea via Korea Airlines and it was good, but not as good as Singapore.

Out of Chicago....

I would say...

KAL
Asiana
JAL (but they just declared bankrupcy so that might affect them)

You can also use american airlines (AA, NWA) as they tend to offer better service on their international routes than on their horrid national routes.

Bottom line: price.

I have flown many airlines all over the world.

But for the OP's question:

I have only flown Asiana, and I was very happy with Asiana.

Best price, great service.

I'll choose them again unless another airline is cheaper - enough cheaper.
