I spent two months in the Philippines last summer and actually paid a travel agency to do the extension for me. I think the total cost was 3600 pesos or so, 3000 for the extension and 600 to the agency. It is expensive but convenient.
Regarding the embassy in Seoul, I walked by it last weekend and there was a sign out front that said it had moved to a new location, near the Hyatt. It sounds like there is a new Filipino restaurant near the new embassy, too.
One question: If you get the 60 day visa at the embassy here in Seoul and then decide to stay more than 60 days, can you still get the extension at the immigration office in the Phils? Or does the embassy here have tourist visas that are for more than 60 days? I'd like to stay for 3-4 months in the Phils after my current contract.

Thank God. If it were like Korea, I wouldn't want to go there!! |

I was mainly on Boracay, I agree with a previous post Daves Straw Hat Inn is very good, plus only a 15 minute walk along a lit beach to the nightlife, so a very good place to relax and sleep in peace the next day.
There is actually a direct flight to Kalibo from Seoul which started last year but I don't know the prices. But avoid Manila Airport if you can, you get delays regulary and I even had to rebbok for the next day once.
Boracay is sweet, just roll on up and look its by far the cheapest way and also you can rent nice apartments in the main mall cheaply. For $100 US you will live the life of luxury. there are nice markets where you can buy all the feash gods you need dirt cheap shrimps, beef, pork vegetables etc.
most places have happy hours and the beach is internationally rated.
Spent some time in other places and island hoping also is a good idea, plus theres an island where you can swim with whalesharks, sorry I don't know its name but I saw a Japanese documentary about it on NHK and it also looked sweet.
Its just like other third world places i've been to, just be careful with your stuff, don't get munted with strangers and beware of shemales, especially on Boracay after dark, |

I have been using this site:
www.hotelscombined.com
You can search for virtually any location and it gives you good rates and a lot of options. As far as I know, Boracay is only 1-2 km wide and about 10 km long, so anywhere on the island will probably be okay. You can never be too far from any beach.
If you want more information about the general area or customs, etc, try www.virtualtourist.com |

You can get extensions in 59 day intervals for up to a grand total of 16 months before you have to leave the country and begin again.
The exception to this are those married to a Pinay/Pinoy. They get a one year balikbayan stamp on arrival (if they arrive with their spouse). If they arrive without the spouse traveling with them then they are treated like any other tourist.
