RESTAURANTS
1. TAJ PALACE in Itaewon. Top quality delicous Indian food at this Khasmiri run restaurant. The nan is light & crispy here and the curries will please your tongue. If you're like me, you'll wish you could take this restaurant back to your home country with you when you leave Korea. It's THAT good! Location: Itaewon Station - exit 3, pass Starbucks, turn right at the clothing shop at the corner and walk up the street 1.5 blocks. It's on the right.

2. THE SMOKEY SALOON in Itaewon. Burgers made from fresh ingredients for your burger craving. This in the place to go to when the fast food giants won't cut it. Itaewon Station - same side as the Hamilton hotel - located in the alley leading to the hotel. Ask people in Itaewon for precise directions. This place is well known.

3. KENZO RAMEN in Jongro 3 ga and Sincheon. Delicious & authentic Japanese ramen. Get yourself a tummy pleasing bowl of miso (soyabean paste) ramen and an order of gyoza (dumplings). The proprietor of these restaurants is a Japanese gent who has brought his delicious food to Korea. Google them for directions or call 02-393-3579

SHOPPING

1. INSADONG STREET near Jogno 3 ga station (just ask any Korean & he / she will point you in the right direction) is THE PLACE to go to for Korean art & crafts and for that special souvenir for your family back home or yourself. Do visit many shops & compare prices. You should also haggle in these shops too as the competition is fierce. You should expect 10% - 20% off.

2. NAMDAEMUN MARKET is an essential Seoul experience. Lively public market with a wide variety of goods at low prices (you can haggle a bit here too, but be respectful). Clothes and things for your home make up the majority of the items on offer. But also check out the underground market which is literally located underground and has some products much sought after by the expat teacher like Quaker Oatmeal and Whey Protein. But do expect to pay a premium price for these rarities. What you'll pay will depend on your haggling skills.

For food.

Zelen in Itaewon. Great Bulgarian food.
梅花饭店 in Kondae. Delicious Chinese that is not exp.
Dos Tacos in Gangnam or Hongdae. Not everyones favorite but I like it.
はな in Sincheon. Small and wonderful okonomiyaki place, cheap.
The tiny jiggae spot behind YBM in Jeongno. This little place serves only Kimchi Jiggae, Sundubu Jiggae and Dwengjang Jiggae.

These are the best 5 restaurants in Seoul without breaking out the black card.

Doota B2 in Dongdaemun.
Foreign Food Market near What the Book.
What the Book.
G Market.

Shopping for men in Seoul is terrible.

There's samgyeopsal restaurant in Jamsil "mukja golmok" that's out of this world.

Strictly a Korean family/businessman-type place, it's probably one of the best places in Seoul for what they specialize in.

The only problem is they give you too much food. Not a place I can go to now as I'm trying to get faster for a Muay Thai kickboxing match.

Shopping:

Uniqlo (from Japan) in Myeong dong has good quality basics - something like Gap, but cheaper. But, it's not for people bigger than U.S. size large though. If you want larger, try shopping around Itaewon.

Does anyone know if good Mexican food is still available in Seoul? I knew good restaurant in Sincheon, but forgot the name. Maybe it's called Margarita's restaurant.
