Women Wash Their Hands More Often Than Men
Koreans wash their hands more than they used to, whether in response to the bird or swine flu scares or for other health reasons. On average last year, they washed their hands 8.5 times, and women more often than men, at 9.9 times to 7. |
Is that 8.5 times a year?

KCDC carried out a separate study in seven major parks and bus terminals nationwide, including Yeouido Park and the Seoul Express Bus Terminal, and three out of four people, or 74.7 percent, washed their hands after using a public toilet, an increase from 63.5 percent in 2006 and 60.1 percent in 2008. |
Bull@#$t
Maybe 1 out of 10 for men, and I have no idea for women. |

Anecdotally speaking, the 74.7% stat is wrong. I work in the healthcare field and even healthcare professionals do not wash/sanitize their hands as often as they should.

I agree; Korean men wash their hands before using the toilet, not after. Odd those statistics, under 10 times in a year seems to be a bit rare (I guess taking a shower doesn't count), though the same number a day seems to be a lot. No idea how Jimjilbang, Sauna, etc. figures into that, if they are talking about only hand washing then I'd call this Lady-McBeth-Syndrome.
Of course women need to wash their hands more often; men would too if they had to reach inside to get to their private parts. Perhaps dishwashing also counts into the statistic.
All in all a pretty useless statistic. |

Actually, the research team involved in the study is wrong. Most experts agree antibacterial soaps are not ideal, as they promote antibacterial resistance - a serious problem these days. The best product is still alcohol-based gels. I keep a bottle in my briefcase! |

HC provider here too. It was a constant uphill battle to get staff to wash enough but more importantly do it RIGHT. Any stat in Korea that shows that people wash enough times is totally worthless without validating the quality of the washing. Of the maybe 3 of 10 men I see washing their hands, 2 of them are more focused on wetting the hands to fk with their hair.
I'm not so discusted by a dude using the urinal then walking out as i am by him using the crapper then primping, then leaving. However, hand washing in the bathroom is more a matter of addressing the accumulation of weird stuff from door knobs, desks, chairs, etc. |

HAHA! Yes, I was going to mention the "Korean wash" (i.e., wet your dirty hands and run them thru your hair while giving yourself the "Blue Steel" look in the mirror). |

The reason Korean guys wash their hands before going to the toilet is because they spend about half a day in the cubicle doing whatever it is they do in there |
