I was wondering the best way to respond while teaching when either you or a student breaks wind that is either loud enough to hear and/or pungent enough to whiff.
I had this happen a few times and I'm always at a loss as to the best way(s) of handling it. |

I just don't understand what you are all about Olive. You claim to be this 15+year veteran teacher in Korea, how in the world does someone with that much experience have no clue and post like a newbie every thread?
If this isn't another trolling topic, I will bite a little.
Just ignore it like most civilized people do. Or if you are to blame then excuse yourself. |

Here here here,
He's a troll if ever I saw one.
Just ignore it Olivencia, if you actually did anything about it, you might get a parent upset that you had the nerve to reprimand thier child for passing gas, youd get your admins pissed off and they'd want to fire you. And as you have said, you don't want to be effective as a teacher and risk losing your job. |

When you pass gas......
1) If its going to be a loud one, make a noise so as to distract the students from hearing your release.
2) If its smelly, release it in an area, and then retreat as fast as you can to another part of the classroom. Then students are far more likley to be blaming one another.
3) Act like you cant smell anything because you have a cold.
4) Blame the first person who noticed the smell
5) Ask the class who is "Bey-A-pi-oh"?
6) Just open the window and go on with class
just fyi |

I usually tell the kids to write something and then go outside for a "breather". Right now it's ok cause it's winter break, and no one is in the hallway. |

I was just wondering the same thing last night! I had some food that gave me constant gas and was wondering how that would pan out in a classroom. |

If it's good, applaud.
If it's not, say "you can do better than that". |

This is my response: I approach it with humor.
I don't fart in front of my students though. I think my body puts the old sphincter on lockdown while I am teaching.
About the OP: I don't get all the newbie questions either. I am guessing someone is either a troll or a liar. |

If it is a student ignore it. If it is you, don't make a big deal about it, say "excuse me" and move on with the material without missing a beat. |

If at all possible, just position yourself within close range of the perpetrator and then launch an immediate (and devastating) retaliatory strike. Anyone else in the vicinity of the blast will just have to be written off as collateral damage - that's the unfortunate reality of the situation. |
