And don't me started on the Kiwis. In fact, the only people that, in general, have a hard time laughing at their country are Americans. Probably not unrelatedly, Americans are the only folks running around with a persecution complex calling everyone anti-American or jealous. Maybe it's a sense of humour that's lacking. Just a thought. |
Uh, ok? I know a lot of Americans who laugh at our country. If there is a persecution complex then a lot of that probably comes from the fact that there has been a lot of anti-Americanism over the last 9 years. That's just a simple fact. Add in that Americans are similar to the French in that many are extremely patriotic and you will run across some that are very defensive. |

I know there's been a lot of anti-Americanism in the last decade and a lot of it has been unfairly directed towards it's innocent citizens. You reinforce my point, which was Americans tend to be very defensive of their country and see attacks where there are none. I was initially responding to the post that said Canadians have an anti-American streak, which I just don't see. Most Americans I know can give just as good as they get, but many I've encountered use the rampant anti-Americanism in some parts of the world as an excuse to insult other countries while complaining about any observation about theirs.
Anyway, back on point. I was surprised by all the whining Americans!
Kidding! |

I didn't really take offense to what you said. More that I just don't believe that Americans are not self-deprecating. I will give you that we are quite a bit more optimistic (sometimes naive?) than other English speaking countries. |
