Today I euthanized my dog. He was old and sick and having more bad days than good ones.
The vet was compassionate and treated him very gently during the procedure. I had the choice to be present and I chose to do so holding him and patting his head as his life ended. She even made all the arrangements for cremation and his ashes will be returned.
This has been one of the hardest days of my life but I feel better knowing he died knowing I was with him till the very end.
For every animal hating Korean out there, there are good people like my vet who will take care of our companions till the end.
When the bill is settled I will post it here so others can know the costs involved. |

I'm sorry for you and your loss. In time, you'll remember all the wonderful moments, and the fact you were there with your companion up to the very end shows what a dedicated pet owner you are and what a wonderful life you gave them.
I grew up with pets and was there at the very end for both dogs, one at 10 and one at 27 (my age, not the dogs). It's crushing coming back to an empty home, but try to remember that just as they brought you so much happiness, so too did you make your pets life better by caring for them and giving them love and a home.
I don't remember who said it, but a quote I always liked went something like: "A dogs only flaw is that it's life is too short." |

This is very sad and brought a tear to my eye ~ I'm truly sorry to hear about your loss.
I dread the day when I will have to let my dog go. He is my best friend also.
Take comfort in knowing that you gave your dog the best possible life that you could and you were with him when he passed. Being a loyal companion for your dog, as he was to you, is the best thing you could ever do for your pet.
I was in Korea when my lovely cat passed and I still feel guilty about it to this day, and it has been more than 5 years now.
I really hope that time will heal you quickly and you are left with nothing but happy memories. |

Humans can become more emotionally attached to animals then they can to other humans.
I've been through the same thing, OP.
Your dog had a good life, remember that. |

The experience I suffered euthanizing my favorite cat 4 months ago is the exact opposite.
I asked to be present but the vet carried out the procedure and then showed me the result.
I could hear my cat wailing while I waited. I thought the vet was placing a stint and would then call me in.
Instead I was presented with a dead cat while I looked on incredulously. I have had many pets in my life, and have had to euthanize quite a few. This was the worst experience I have ever had regarding this difficult part of pet ownership. Thank-you Korea .
It is unfortunate, but pet care here in Korea is pretty much hit or miss.
It is good your experience was nothing like mine. |

thank you for all the support. To the above poster ^ Sorry your experience was so awful. Maybe you should post the name of your vet here so no one will go through the same. |
