I am very interested in getting a ESL certification and going, most likely, somewhere in South Korea to teach for a couple years. Can anyone recommend a good school or recruitment agency to go through? It seems there are so many schools/programs to go through and I do not want to get scammed or come unprepared. I do have a bachelor's degree (in an unrelated field) and I am a native English speaker.
Anyone who could share their stories about the steps they went through to obtain and maintain a job oversees would be an extreme help!!! |

Steps?
Ok...
1- Get your resume up to date
2- Hit the internet and search 'English Teaching in Korea'
3- Sift through the thousands of hits you get
4- Find some recruiters or employers who direct hire
5- Apply to those you feel confortable with
6- Follow the process
7- Repeat until job is secured.
OR
1- Fly to Korea with some money
2- Look for jobs locally
If you want more detailed advice on job hunting, what it takes, what you can expect...I will gladly provide it. If you want advice on living in Korea, I will also gladly share some.
Good luck. |

Yep, research on here for opinions on recruiters and schools. Helped me a alot. Dave's job board is a good place to look at who is out there.
Decide if you want to do hagwon or public school teaching by researching both.
All about research basically. |

If you want to teach adults, and you don't have any experience, you'll probably need some kind of certificate like CELTA or TOEFL. Other than that, you just need to get your diploma, 2 sealed transcripts and an apostilled background check.
I've never used a recruiter and I wouldn't recommend that you use one.
Spend some time on the contracts sticky thread. That will help you. |

Hah! If you want to teach adults, you need to be willing to tolerate a split shift and live without sleep. |

| Thank you all. Does it matter what school you go through to get certified? |

| For entry level PS or hagwon, I'd say no. |
