I know I make fun of Arirang TV's 'The Contenders' now and then, but the cold hard truth is that I watch it nearly every week. I guess because I'm away from home when Jeopardy is on AFN, and I need a quiz show fix every so often.

Anyway, I'm one of those guys who when he knows the answer to a question, shouts it at the screen. I am by no means a trivia genius, mind you, but somewhere along the line I convinced Wifey that I am. She has been pestering me for months to submit an online application in hopes of appearing on the show. Last year, I actually did submit an application, however the poster who tentitively agreed to be my partner later PMed me to let me know that he was going to the pre-meeting with another person (shame on you, Marathe Wink ).

But the honest truth is that I didn't even really want to be on The Contenders, even back then. I only tried because Wifey kept bugging me (and bugging me and bugging me). When she went behind my back and submitted my application, she wrote my co-worker's name as my partner. My co-worker, who is Korean and who speaks English very well, told me today that he has seen the show before, and that he has a hard time answering some of the questions. So, that rukes him out. I'm not sure if it's perfectly OK for me to submit one partner's name and then just show up with a completely different person, but I figure it probably doesn't matter too much. The pre-meeting on Saturday, March 6th is basically an audition of sorts, or so I gather. If I have a partner who can dress him or herself and manage to appear at least halfway sane, I think I have a good shot.

(The funny thing that Wifey doesn't realize is that if I do appear on the show and actually win, I have to share the prize with my teammate, not her. Boo hoo, Wifey.)

So, here is my propostion: in order to get Wifey off my back, I need a potential teammate who is available to attend the pre-meeting on March 6th at 3pm. If you are interested, please send me a response via PM. I'm not too sure how many people would jump at the chance to potentially make a jackass of themselves on live TV (my biggest fear), but just in case I get a bunch of responses, please tell me in your PM why you would like to appear on the show, and prove to me how smart you are. Additionally, if you're good at answering science/current events/Korean culture questions, that would help, as those are my weakest areas.

Please, somebody respond, or I'm gonna have to bring Wifey. And though I love her to death, it wouldn't be pretty.

I find Jeopardy easy and The Contenders more so.

Come on. Try to stump the chump.

FALSE.

One doesn't "wear" skin, though one "has on" skin.

So to the question "What am I wearing?" my answer was false. To the question "What do I have on?" my answer was true.

Too much analysis of the question.

Paralyzed by the possibilities.

I'd look like a deer caught in the headlights.

"Next!"

Maybe you should hold tryouts. I've thought about it, but I'd probably make more money working to pay for the trip I will win.

You have a very good point there, kangnam D. I will try telling it to Wifey.

You should be fine, some friends of mine were in a similar situation. The wife out of a husband wife time had to bail, so husband just brought a friend instead. Contenders didn't care.

In the indominatible spirit of trivia, here's one for y'all:

Ben Folds Five's melancholy ditty, Brick, is about the following:

a) The traumatic pain and existential heartache of loss experienced by the songwriter after he accompanies his recently pregnant girlfriend to an abortion clinic.

b) The sorrow and guilt the songwriter feels after taking his sick, dying dog to the veterinarians to be put down.
