Hey folks

So i live in Gyeonggi-do but i went to Gyeong-ju for the last few days and absolutely fell in love with it. its dirty and far away from the wealth of Seoul, sure, but the people were REALLY friendly compared to Gyeonggi-do/Seoul and the city and its surrounds are really beautiful.

The place made such an impression on me that i'm seriously thinking of moving there for my next contract. Has anyone got any experience of working and living in Gyeong-ju? What are the pro's and cons of living and working there for a year?

I know exactly what you mean. Two and half years ago, I went there about for an extended weekend trip. People were very friendly. In fact, even the police were friendly.

That's along the East coast near Daegu, right? If so, it's an odd fact that a lot of the Koreans I've become friends with over the years (in Seoul) are from families in that area.

Very beautiful "Kyeongju Kim" family features abound there, as well.

Pretty cool place for a museum. It seems like it would be like living in a wonderful old tomb.

Yup, I lived and worked there for sixteen years (it was my wife's hometown). Beautiful place and I loved my time there. We still have a place there we visit to and store things we're not using.

I've never lived there, but I'll agree, after having visited it last week and been pleasantly surprised.

If there were one place outside of Seoul I'd like to live/work, this would be at or near the top for at least a year. Won't happen, though, because we're pretty firmly planted in Seoul. If my wife quit working some day, we might think about such a thing, but I'd doubt she would like moving out of Seoul.

A few of my friend lived there a while ago and we'd always go there to visit. It was a blast. It's a decent place to live.

We visited in my first summer here, was absolutely awesome, really nice area. We stayed in a small village house that a Korean friend owned. It's a really nice area and I also had a similar feeling.

Wouldn't want to live there however, it is a bit of a backwater in terms of access. (but a nice place.)
