I just watched the screener. It was a bad encode in that it segmented the dvd into sections and every 7-8mins you get lag as it would load the next segment. The picture wasn't 16:9 either, but the quality was pretty good as was the sound. The most important thing was the hard coded subs in ENGLISH of the native language. Now I can go see it in the theater and not care.

You need to download the ViSiON release. It's the best. IMAGiNE's release was the most popular for about a day and a half. It's terrible, as well as the release by SAFEP2P (I believe they're called).

I've watched 50 minutes of ViSiON's DVDSCR and it's pretty nice. A breath of fresh air. Beats the pants off IMAGiNE's release.

Is this one still in the theaters in 3D?

Seeing parts of it makes me want to go see it there.

The Maxspeed version is really good. It's a bit bright, but a better print that ViSiON (which I found much too dark). Maxspeed is fullscreen, though... no letterbox, so you are cutting off a bit of the sides, as with many DVD's.

yeah I guess for people our age who have grown up watching T2, starwars, and a list of other movies didn't find it good....

but for 12 year old kids to go to the movie theaters and watch it probably found it entertaining..

Controversial opinion alert: Avatar is a terrible movie and you should watch something more worthwhile.

2 billion dollars says it isn't.

I found the storyline weak, but hey, do you think it sold 2billion tickets based on a storyline?

You have to admit the scope and effects of the movie are just outstanding. I watched Avatar then went back and watched the original Star Wars. I felt like the original Star Wars could be filmed under 1mil these days with the effects they employed, yet that was cutting edge when it came out. Avatar is the same: cutting edge. In 3D with IMAX the movie must look awesome.

Sadly, I won't know cause I am too lazy to travel an hour for an imax theater to see it that way.

Saw both in theatres twice, and I've watched the screener for Holmes two more times since then, I'm firmly of the opinion that it was the better movie for repeated viewings.
Avatar was astounding, but it just won't be the same without the 3d theater experience.

Agreed. I loved Sherlock Holmes. Probably the best "no-brain required" movie of the winter. Avatar looked spectacular but I could really care less if I ever set eyes on it again. I'm saving up Holmes for when I get my HD set-up. Also can't wait for the sequel.
