This is not a biggie, just curious...

We finish our contract on Feb. 26th, a Friday, and have our tickets booked and paid for by the school to leave the country on the 27th.

The replacement couple actually arrive a few days before we leave. Not sure why it worked out that way...maybe they want them to observe a few classes, er whatever. ?

We work to 6pm normally, and will do so on the 26th.

But we've been told we have to come back at 7pm that night...our last night in the country....for an open house sorta thing, an event to recruit new students. this event had been planned for several saturdays ago, but was cancelled, for some reason.

Would you do that? Would you get dressed up and go? Would you make excuses? Would you ask about payment, as per contract? (that, is essentially over by that point.),Would you suggest you were too busy packing and taking in your last night in Korea, and the new teachers would be better faces for such an event?

I don't wanna go. I think it's silly to ask someone to do that. I've put in a solid year, with 10 days vacation...9, really, 'cause one of 'em fell on a national holiday. No sick days taken. And 5 saturdays worked already, plus a friday night, for events, which we did with no problem. The school also has been fair, and paid us on time, and overtime for most of these events, save one.

I had a grand mental plan of actually ending work at 6pm , like always, on the last day of work and clueing up personal things the last evening in the country.

But perhaps I'm just being silly.

If your last day of contract is Feb 26th does your ARC also expire on the 26th? If so you should get that extended at Immigration.

no, there's a few days leeway on the ARC. i.e. we're leaving a few days before the ARC expires.

I wouldn't. That's just me. I would explain to them exactly as you have in here.

I would tell them you are too busy packing and if they wanted you to do it they should have given you an extra day on the ticket home. If they can't understand, screw them. The new teachers should be the ones doing the open house anyways.
