For a kick-off, what on earth is a "tea-bagger?"
is it...
a) Someone who puts tea in bags.
b) Someone who prefers their tea in tea bags rather than with a strainer.
c) None of the above. |

c, b+d (jaywalking, not jwalking)
umm...are these intentionally easy? urbandictionary or a google search of teabagging will tell you what that is. As for jaywalking, The word jaywalk is a compound word derived from the word jay, an inexperienced person, and walk |

Not everyone has been to north america.
The sheer abundance of localised idiom, colloquiallisms and slang from your country poses an abstacle for people learning english, as well as non-north americans who actually speak the language properly.
Its patronising to expect everyone on the planet to automatically understand your jargon. Most of the time it just sounds totally stupid and is detrimental to the language.

So you don't know then?

Really? to the rest of the world, a "Jay" is one of three things
a) A type of bird b) An excessively noisy and talkative person c) Slang term for a spliff. |

Yes, I do know, but I have the suspicion you might be a troll. And the whole "speaking the language properly" nonsense proved that suspicion right. By the way, from my limited American knowledge of the world, I believe even non-Americans know how to use google/wikipedia. Both of your questions are easily answered there...but then you couldn't slag off Americans, could you?
And you spelled "obstacle" wrong.
Need a definition for douchebag? |

I think you've provided a perfect example.
I'm not a troll. I'm just tired of dumb americanisms. I mean its not like they understand anybody elses slang is it? |

I suppose I should start a thread complaining about British/Aussie/Whatever slang.
I used slag off. Isn't that British? Maybe you're the one who has problems understanding slang from other countries.
Cursed bogans. |

I'm curious about the tea-bagging thing. Does anybody know whether it's an attempt to steal a word back (like that "Rainbow Coalition" against gay marriage thing)?
Or are they really as dumb as I think they are? |

You mean its use by news personalities? I honestly think they really are just dumb and it's another example of them losing credibility, in this case by talking like 12 year old gamers.
Apart from the media, I don't think there are any professional situations where it should be used. |

Here's some clarification on the tea-bagger thing:
It is a sort of movement among right wing, conservative Americans perpetuated by continuous publicity through Fox News. Some may even claim that Fox News organised the whole movement against Obama.
The name comes from the Boston Tea Party where Americans refusing to pay tax to the British - epitomized by taxing British tea - threw many boxes into the harbor.
Now the group thinks that the current government is taxing them too much.
Most of the members of this movement may be unaware of "tea-bagging" the slang word for placing your scrotum on somebody's face. However, some of these tea-baggers do get the references and include them into some of their outlandish protest signs, "Tea bag the Libs before they tea bag you!"
Unfortunately I believe, as do a host of other people, that they are a misinformed bunch that may lead to the downfall of America if the claims of Fox News are substantiated - "More Americans watch Fox News than all other news channels combined." |

Except that the sexual reference was first used by liberals as an insult to the protesters. "The teabaggers are at it again!!!" type of comments were all over the place.
I'm not saying I agree with the protesters, but throwing out juvenile insults is just unprofessional. |

Yes because we Americans get furious when you don't understand our slang? And other countries have no confusing slang........

Actually, it was Fox News that first suggested "tea bagging the White House." As much as I generally loathe all media, you can't blame liberals for running with it... |

I would think all slang is dumb or at the very least frivolous for any person that does not adhere to, or belong to, the subset of people in which it was intended.
If these are the kind of things weighing heavily on your life to the point that you let them affect you, I think it's time to re-prioritize. |

C..originally it has, and still is, used as slang describing when a guy takes his nut sack and puts it on someones face or mouth, often while they're asleep. Obviously a lot of times this is done as an insult etc. I know a guy who had this done to him while asleep and they left a picture of it on his pillow.
With the beginning of the Tea party movement in the USA some on the left started to refer to these people as teabaggers as an insult. What's worse, is that some of these people call themselves teabaggers. I wonder if they know what it means? Probably not since a lot of them are older and don't know this slang. |
