does anyone have any information regarding this? I'm starting a job with GEPIK in Ilsan March 1, arriving in Seoul Feb. 25th...my school just told me that I can attend orientation if I want. Is it mandatory? I really can't arrive any earlier than the 25th as I'm working the day before I fly out. Just wanting some info regarding this.

I believe it is mandatory for those who have never taught in the GEPIK program. The orientation is somewhat useful if you have never taught before but a waste if you have been in Korea for awhile. Only good things are that you will meet a lot of ppl and you will get to miss a few days of school.

Don't worry, nobody will let you miss orientation Very Happy

If you can't make it to the February one, they'll send you to one in a few months. You'll probably appreciate it more then, because you will appreciate the few days off school and the mingling with the other teachers.

You don't have to arrange your being at the orientation, either. One day the school will tell you you're going to orientation, you'll pack a small bag, and go!

that's good to know. then i can look forward to a mini-break sometime in the future. better than doing it while jet-lagged and cranky.

Don't go unless your school makes you.
Avoid it at all costs.
If you have a pulse, it's really not worth it.

It wasn't that bad.

3 days of no work, free food and a few seminars? It's actually worth it.

Any word yet on when the next GEPIK orientation will be? My school has mentioned that I should attend an orientation sometime in the near future.

My school just told me about it. The dates are April 14-16 for elementary, and April 21-24 for middle and high school.

i think the networking opportunities are what most people find valuable about the in-person orientation.

as for what the two "orientations" cover, I'm pretty sure you're going to get very different info from each of them. the official blurbs might be similar, but the gepik orientation has more input from teachers that gepik finds good. and you'll be able to get person-person info from the folks you meet.

--edited for a typo. i probably missed others, ha - sorry.

debinoxford, what's the online course you're doing? I assume it's through GEPIK? Just curious if you've found it helpful.....
