I kinda miss the good old days when RP was considered a wing nut. Now he's 'main stream' and getting Scozzafavaed by 3 candidates to his right. This in a state where Kay Bailey Hutchison may well lose to a secessionist or a birther. |

It hurts you doesn't it
And it's only going to get bigger as your man Obama sinks the country deeper and deeper into his quagmire of broken promises, corruption and ineptitude. You and your ilk fully deserve to be on the losing side of history. |

Now you're confusing a right-wing conspiracy (birther) with a left-wing conspiracy (9/11 truther). |

Oops. That should have read '9/11 Truther'. Excuse me for getting one right wing conspiracy mixed up with another right wing conspiracy. It happens. What can I say? |
Everything you post is just an embarrassment. |

You are flat out ridiculous. The man is a racist and a white supremacist. How does that make liberals emotionally crippled? What the hell does it have to do with Obama? Make a cogent farking point please. |
I know right? Hey, so Obama actually gives orders to drop bombs on innocent people (in 4 different nations). Ron Paul wouldn't. Obama is escalating the drug war. Ron Paul would end it. Obama is spending the country to a sovereign debt crisis. Ron Paul wouldn't.
But Ron Paul might have distasteful ideas in his head. So, bomb away. Throw all the brothers in jail for slinging rock (at least nobody important will say mean things about them).
That is, let's focus on pretend issues for fragile people.
Funny thing. Ron Paul would be better for blacks than is Obama. |

I'm not sold on the idea that the private sector would be the lesser evil for reducing poverty or in providing for medical needs, but I will vouch for Ron Paul's consistency. He seems to really make an effort to stick to the clear cut principles of radically reducing the scope of government, even in all the areas that conservative politicians would be pressured to make exceptions for (his stance and voting record on the drug war and actual wars are good examples). His whole identity is based around this consistency. Even in that article Gil posted, you can find quotes saying something to the extent that even though whoever wrote that particular newsletter piece doesn't approve of gays/minorities/whatever, he refuses to impose his will on them through the government.
Also, it's an interesting point that Ron Paul might be a backwards and prejudiced guy who would in practice fight to defend the liberties of those he doesn't approve of, while the average mainstream progressive politician might be a really compassionate and open minded person who'd sell out all the people he or she actually appreciates to avoid making waves. Then again, you can never overestimate how much a seemingly foolproof philosophy can be twisted around to inspire actions diametrically opposed to the intention behind it. Slavery was once seen as an issue of liberty from government tyranny insofar as its abolition would violate slaveholders' property rights. |

Back to the original topic for a sec, I guess I do have some sympathy for kids who are the children of Tea Party activists, and then pick up a copy of their favorite comic book to see their folks' portrayed as the villains of the month.
On the other hand, I guess I'd also have some sympathy for the children of Communists who watch a Cold War era action-flick and see THEIR parents' ideology portrayed as villainous. Though I doubt the Tea Baggers would really care so much about Communist sensibilities. |

| And it should also be pointed out that when Communist offspring have something like Animal Farm assigned to them in school, they're being FORCED to read a book that mocks their parents' and maybe even their own beliefs. Whereas at least Marvel Comics only sell to willing customers. |

Speaking of which, I don't know if anyone in this thread is aware of this, but the text on every sign depicted in the comic was lifted directly from actual "Tea Party" protest signs.
And while I just defended Ron Paul a bit, I'd also point out that there is a pretty obvious association between white supremacy and vague anti-government sentiments in the vein of the Tea Baggers that dates back to the Confederates viewing the Union as tyrannical in trying to abolish slavery and continued throughout more modern US history with the Republicans eventually adopting the "Southern strategy" once Democrat LBJ broke with the "Solid South's" sensibilities in pushing through the (what was once again seen as tyrannical) Civil Rights Acts.
By the way, it's always lame when people invoke the right to free speech/protest in complaining about someone else exercising their right to mock and criticize them, which is exactly what the author of the OP's article did:
| Quote: |
| Bet you didnt know that when you were indulging your right as a citizen to protest your government that you were a dangerous white supremacist that wants to destroy the country, did you? |
Furthermore, his attempt at outlining a break between his version of reality and what he sees as propaganda doesn't even make sense. He's implying that you can't both be a white supremacist and indulge in your right as a citizen to protest your government, which is ridiculous given that the ACLU's famous for having defended Neo-Nazis and the KKK for that very reason. Is he suggesting A) that comics should be censored to protect his right to protest the government and B) that white supremacists shouldn't be allowed to protest the government?
I think it was a dumb move by Marvel, but a move well within their rights. The reason it is so dumb is that now genuinely ignorant and misguided Fox News types can go around rebutting anyone who calls them out on it by claiming they fell for Marvel's/the broader liberal media's propaganda. |
