|
I am teaching Kindergarten in Ilsan. My school has moved to a new building over the weekend. In addition to the new building, my school has a new name and a new curriculum. He's basically purchased a new franchise. Well, we don't actually use the new curriculum until the current crop of Kindy kids graduate in 10 days.
My director hasn't mentioned how/if this will affect my contract. My contract is with the former school/franchise. Should I request a new contract be drawn up between me and the "new" school for the time I have remaining?
If he does that(a new contract), I'm thinking I should request a detailed clause be put in that covers my severance. I'd like to make it more difficult for my director to use this change in franchise to deny me my severance. He's an okay guy on the surface (to NETs) but will be shifty/cheap given half a chance. It took me 3 months to get medical insurance and even then I've got a different plan than the National Insurance.
I originally worked with a recruiter to get this job and they've offered a fair amount of post-arrival support as well. I'm thinking I'll deal with the director myself until/unless it gets dodgy. Does that seem reasonable?
I'd appreciate any advice y'all can give me. Thanks. |

If you're on an E-2, it is not legal for you to work at an address different from that which is on your visa. |

Ah. I wonder if my director knows that. So, do I have to get a new visa? Which would mean the whole CBC etc process again, right? Or is it a matter of transferring something so that I'm legal? |

You both need to go down to immigration together and have your visa transferred from his old address to his new one. If he doesn't do this, he could be fined. |

Thank you. I googled and got the form we'll need. Tomorrow is "set up the classroom" day so we'll have to go then.
Any advice on whether I insist on a new contract? Or maybe change the name and address and we both initial and date the first contract would be satisfactory?
Maybe I'm being paranoid but I want to do my best not to leave him an easy way out of the severance. |

I'm curious as well. How will transferring the visa to the new location/school potentially affect his severance pay? Can the owner deny him severance pay because he didn't complete a whole 12 months with the "new school"?
I think that you should make sure that in your contact it says a start and finish date and that it's clear that at the end of that finish date you'll receive a flight home (if you didn't already get a 2-way ticket when you came). |

Troglodyte: Those are my concerns exactly. I suppose it's best to start asking my director some questions and go from there. |

How long have you been with them (at the original location)? |

It shouldn't make a difference as long as it's the same owner. |
