Hi all,

I just wondered if anyone from the UK could help with ordering transcripts.

I asked for transcripts from my University and they mentioned that what I was asking for sounded like the 'Diploma Supplement', which lists the modules I took, the length of the course, my module score breakdown and my personal details. They said this would cost me 30 per copy.

They then said if I wanted just transcripts, I would have to get them from my course administrator and they are free. I'm confused as to which it is I require. Does anyone know the difference between transcripts and the diploma supplement? I know it is 'transcripts' that get requested, but I don't know if 'diploma supplement' is the equivalent of what US/Canadian transcripts are...

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks

Transcripts are all you need (unless they've changed the rules in the last three months). The first copy was free for me, the second one cost me a fiver.

What they seem to define as "Diploma Supplement" sounds a lot like what immigration here would accept as "transcripts". you definitely want an official document that is issued by the central records office from your uni and has a breakdown of every unit / module you took, your personal info, and is appropriately sealed and stamped, which individual departments or professors are, imho, unlikely to fulfil. costs vary by school, mine want about a fiver for one copy, 30 for a pack of ten or - the korea friendly option - 15 for one individual copy, sealed and stamped (crucial) that they will mail directly to wherever you ask them.

hope that helps

Never heard of Diploma Supplement - don't bother getting that. It is just the transcripts you need. If they are free that's a bonus. Get three copies just to be safe. Make sure that they have a university stamp at the back of the envelope that they are in.

My uni knew what transcripts are, but they came from our department (Physics and Maths), not another administrative area that covered the whole uni. 25 for as many as I wanted, only got 3 tho.

They couldnt grasp the idea of signing and stamping over the seal, so I had to womble back there in person, pop them in an envelope and make em stamp and sign em in front of my face.

All the online information was a bit skewed for me, everyone says you need either 2 or 3 sets of transcripts, i only needed the 1 for sending to Korea to get my visa issuance number. I didnt need to go for an interview to get my visa, just send what they asked for to em in the post... that didnt include another set of sealed transcripts.

Oh, I used DHL to send my transcripts to Korea, everything worked out OK, but they insist on opening your sealed, stamped and signed transcripts. They have some 'Opened by courier' tape to re-seal it, and it worked OK for me, but iv heard the post office dont open the transcripts so may be better using them....

Nice work on being from Yorkshire Wink

Thanks everyone for the advice. It sounds like transcripts from my course administrator are what I need... which is pretty good as apparently they are free!!

I guess you're originally from Yorkshire too Chris?

I know how you feel. I just had a bucket load of them sent to me by my Uni in a tattered Brown envelope when I specifically requested in person and on the form that they be sent to me in individual envelopes that should be stamped and sealed because I needed them to get through Korean Immigration. I really hate these hoops that you have to jump through, especially when you have to rely on others to do so(IE your Uni admin, former employers et al).

Cost me alot too. so im not best pleased at this screw up on their part.
