Hi I will be going to Seoul to teach English and I have a question about dairy products there. I'm allergic to dairy products and usually use the soya alternatives here in Ireland.
Can you get soya alternatives in the supermarket in Seoul?
Please let me know...

I spent two years in Korea where my lactose intolerance kicked in...so yes, you can find soya products. Soy milk is everywhere, you can also get lactose-free milk. Cheeses I'm not so sure about as my intolerance just limits how much cheese I can have and made me cut out milk completely. You should be ok for the most part...Korean cooking rarely uses dairy. There's tonnes of really delicious soy milk here, you can find it in every grocery store or corner store. So Delicious vegan/dairy free ice cream is also pretty big over here. E-mart often has it and there are So Delicious cafes here as well. I haven't been able to find cheese or other dairy alternatives anywhere.

Soy, rice and soy/nut and soy/sesame milks are all sold here. At costco and a couple of vegan restaurants you can get Purely Decadent dairy-free ice cream tubs and sandwiches, made either with soy or with coconut milk, depending on the type. Vegan restaurants will have dairy-free desserts you can take home. You're out of luck on products like dairy-free cheese, cream cheese and sour cream though. Do they sell Scottish "Shreese" in Ireland? If they do, it's a great replacement. Might wanna stock up!

I'm just curious. Can you get unsweetened soya milk (with calcium added)?
