Idaho church group accused of kidnap could be sent home for trial
Haiti: Haiti's leader says it's clear to him that the 10 US Baptists who tried to take 33 Haitian children out of the quake-ravaged country "knew what they were doing was wrong".
Prime Minister Jean-Max Bellerive said some of the children have parents who are alive. The government is attempting to locate them. He says a judicial system needs to determine whether the Americans were acting in good faith as they claim or are child traffickers.
The Baptists are mostly from Idaho. They have been held since being arrested on Friday trying to enter the Dominican Republic with the children.
................
Its spokesman, George Willeit, said workers were searching for their families. "One nine-year-old girl was crying, and saying, 'I am not an orphan. I still have my parents.' And she thought she was going on a summer camp or... something like that [when she was taken]," he said.

Sent home for trial?!!!
HA!
Send them back to Haiti and let them stand trial there for attempting to steal children!
Why would they stand trial in Idaho? I hope they rot in a Haitian prison for the next decade. |

For failing to complete paperwork??? That is what the judge meant by "doing something wrong."
Anyway, you did not get your wish. They are home now, and will not have to stand trial. |

No, for being kidnappers. Yeah, a shame. Wish they would have rotted in jail. Oh well, maybe the next would be evangelist kidnappers will be too afraid to risk it. |

And glad to see you have such a vested interest in all this. Wouldn't want you to miss out on your collective persecution complex fix. I assume that's the primary reason you bumped a three week old thread in the first place. |

Perhaps you haven't seen this:
Missionaries freed by Haitian judge land in US
By DAVID FISCHER and FRANK BAJAK, Associated Press Writers 35 mins ago
MIAMI Eight American missionaries freed by a Haitian judge landed in Miami early Thursday, nearly three weeks after the group was charged with kidnapping for trying to take 33 children out of the quake-stricken country.
The group's swift departure from Haiti began a day earlier when Judge Bernard Saint-Vil said eight of the 10 missionaries were free to leave without bail because parents of the children had testified they voluntarily gave their children to the missionaries believing the Americans would give them a better life.
"The parents gave their kids away voluntarily," Saint-Vil said in explaining his decision.
He said, however, that he still wanted to question the group's leader, Laura Silsby, and her former nanny, Charisa Coulter, because they had visited Haiti prior to the quake to inquire about obtaining orphans.
Silas Thompson, 19, of Twin Falls, Idaho, plopped into the back seat, breathing heavily and beaming with relief. He'd accompanied his father Paul, a pastor, on the mission not knowing that Silsby had not obtained the proper papers, said his U.S.-based lawyer, Caleb Stegall.
The missionaries were charged with child kidnapping for trying to take 33 Haitian children to the Dominican Republic on Jan. 29 without Haitian adoption certificates.
Their detentions came just as aid officials were urging a halt to short-cut adoptions in the wake of the earthquake. Before their release, Haiti's No. 2 justice official, Claudy Gassent, informed them of the judge's decision but said he also gave them a lecture.
"They know they broke the law," he said.
The missionaries say they were on a do-it-youself "rescue mission" to take child quake victims to a hastily prepared orphanage in the Dominican Republic, denying the trafficking charge.
Silsby originally said they were taking only orphaned and abandoned children, but The Associated Press determined that at least 20 were handed over willingly by their parents, who said the Baptists had promised to educate them and let their parents visit.
Yes, they broke the law. They did not complete the paperwork. |

So responding to a post from three weeks ago after a current event has affected the topic = vested interest + collective persecution complex? That is quite the logic there! Anyway, there must be a lot of such people on this board! What does it mean if a thread is is a whole month old or even six months? I shudder to think!
I don't believe in starting a new thread for a subject which has already been begun, plus I had something to respond to you about. |

There's already a thread pertaining to this. Which BOTH of us have already posted on. So where's your logic now?
Respond to me about what? That your brothers in delusion didn't get what's coming to them yet? As I said, hopefully it'll dissuade other ignorant, deluded morons from attempting the same in the future, in which case this wasn't in vain.
And yes, it's quite obvious from your belligerent, asinine rhetoric which side you're taking up and for which reasons. Redundant much? |

OK, I get it now. I guess I'd be angry, too, if someone brought back an old thread that made me look like an idiot. Anger interferes with coherence.

Why tell me? I didn't start this one.

Anyway, yes, I support the missionaries who were trying to help children in need for the reason that I think that is a good thing. An additional reason which might not be so obvious is that I know first-hand the benefits of adoption. |

Hahaha. I find it hilarious how you somehow correlate an inane thread that you revived with anger. A bit of a Freudian slip there, eh?
I also fail to see how you've made anyone but yourself look like an idiot. You've changed absolutely nothing. If anything, the mere mention of your deluded idea that you have manifests how inane such an assertion is.
Yes, I get it. You support people going in to poverty stricken areas, kidnapping children, and attempting to take them across an international border in the name of god. Yeah, got it.
I believe you got called out on your 'ideals of the good of adoption' on the other thread with your absurd remark that it's okay if a few children wind up in the hands of child molesters and whatnot as long as the majority are okay, so I really fail to see how regurgitating your asinine opinions on the 'good' of adoption really plays a role here. Except to cement your belief that kidnapping is okay and you're a heinous human being.
So can we high five now and agree that you're an absolute nutcase who'd gladly sacrifice a few children to child molesters in addition to condoning kidnapping? I mean, that sort of moral conditioning can hardly be argued against, right? |
