|
|
Anyone interested in an Olympic Hockey Pick 'Em Pool?
The pool will include all games from the qualification round until the gold medal game.
Rules:
Pick the team you think will win each game, along with the score.
A maximum of 3 points can be earned per game.
Points will be awarded as such:
* 1 point for picking the winning team
* 2 points picking the correct score; 1 point if exact score is wrong, but margin of victory is correct (you must have the winning team correct to earn the bonus points).
Sound simple enough?
QUALIFICATION ROUND
**Picks must be entered before WED 5am KOREAN TIME**
Belarus vs Switzerland
Latvia vs Czech Republic
Norway vs Slovakia
Germany vs Canada
QUARTERFINAL ROUND WILL BE POSTED AFTER ROUND 1 |

What's with the differing systems here? Seems to be a mix of those who put winners or losers first.
Do different countries tend to name winners before losers and vice versa? I would have the winner listed first, but apparently not everyone does that.
Hmm... |

I always look forward to watching the men's olympic hockey tournament. Most of the games are entertaining, even though my favorite team doesn't always win. And it keeps me constantly revising who I think is going to win gold.
On an added note, I kind of get annoyed how many Canadians back home just assume Canada will outclass the rest of the field. Even though the last 3 tournaments have clearly shown any one of the top 7 teams can win gold. |

I just did a kinda half-assed look down at the previous posters to know who's playing who while entering my wild guesses to determine order.... |

I think maybe Canadians are starting to realize this. I was walking around the Olympic venues in downtown Vancouver last night unaware that Canada had lost yet, and it was a sorry lookin' emptied-out crowd. Kinda good for me, as I could wander at will in and out of the pavilions. I won a Saskatchewan shirt! |

Maybe I could google this, but I'll ask anyway: Which countries have teams in the 'top seven'? |

I think if Canada can come together and play together well as team then they are unbeatable. Unfortunately that doesn't seem to happen often. For the most part i think they looked good against the americans. They controlled most of the play. Although, for all the shots they had on net, not many of their scoring chances were that good. Let's face it Broduer really put canada in a bind by misplaying the puck. |

Canada, USA, Sweden, Finland, Russia, Czech Republic, Slovakia (debatable, but I think they are a decent team)
Germany, Belarus, Switzerland could challenge for a bronze in a lucky year. Maybe in 10 years time Germany and Switzerland could be pretty good teams.
Germany's problem is that they allow to many foreign players in their domestic league (I think they allow 10 in their roster per team), which really effects developing home born talent.
Belarus and a few of those former Russian republics just don't have the money to produce enough top level players, although they do produce a couple. |

Ahhh, I think unbeatable is too strong of a word. I think it was a mistake selecting Brodeur as one of the puck stoppers. Age has for sure caught up to him and the last couple of years he has been pretty average and the only reason he was selected was respect (aka saving face). |
