I don't know what's up with my comp. Everytime I turn it on, I can't connect to the net. My connectivity says it's connected but the status shows that I'm sending packets but I'm not recieving any.

I try assigning my own IP then reconnecting and switching back to automatically assigned addresses again and again untill by some luck it connects.

Does anyone what this could be. I mean right now I'm connected after doing that stunt but it's an unreasonable irritation and I don't see why I shouldn't connect easy as pie.

Well I think if anyone, including myself can help you, we would need more information.

Are you using dial up or high speed. And if high speed is it cable or xDSL?

Trying to assign your own IP with either dial up or high speed will do nothing productive. That setting should be set at "aquire automatically" or something like that...my windows is korean atm.

go to your dos prompt. or command prompt.

type: ipconfig

it will list the devices you have and the numbers.

type: ipconfig /renew_all (think thats the command)

should try to reset your devices.

You can also disable the icon of your device, and then double click it to do the same thing.

let's see some answers and try what I suggest.

I have a cable modem. Right now it's set to assign addresses automatically. In the past just the method of switching between the two modes somehow encouraged it to connect... Confused

restart the cable modem.

restart your computer shortly after

restart your network connection.

goto the network connection screen, goto properties (right click mouse) and hit the disconnect

wait a few mins

double click that icon again

might clear sh*t up

Could be the cable modem is burning out - had that happen to me FOUR yes FOUR times.

Try changing the IRQ settings in the CMOS setup stage. That was my problem before.

I think it looks like a shifty modem too.

Cable modems can be unreliable at times. I've gone through a few, and between my friends, I've seen about 10 modems that have bitten the bullet.

Not to mention the 4 times that MrPink has had to go through.

jae.
