I totally caved and smoked at the bar. But I haven't smoked since and not craving...so maybe I have it under control.

In all honesty, I wouldn't have caved if I hadn't gone to the bar. In order to truly kick it, I think I just need to stay out of bars. Once I smell and see all those cigarettes, Im doomed.

I haven't had a smoke for 85 days.

It's pretty hard after 25 years just one day saying No more and refraining from smoking. I put on 7 kgs within a week. Sometimes the craving makes me feel sick. Instead of making smoke rings with my mouth I sit with hands in the lap and stare morosely.
People mention side effects of smoking but there are side effects when keeping off the cigs, especially after a long time having them and the nicotine and chemicals as basically part of your body.
My organs are regenerating (apparently, from what I read) and it's sometimes painful - like a child teething.
But, haven't had any heart palpitations which I did have when smoking. So, it's healthier for the heart.

I'm glad to hear that Jeonmunka! Those damn little things graft themselves into us in so many ways. For example, one of the things I realized I relied on them for was thinking time. If somebody asked me a question, I could reach into my pocket, pull out a square, light it up, and give a well thought out answer. I needed them to give me a socially acceptable stall. It's also a decent way to break the ice with somebody: light up their smoke and start shooting the breeze.

Im about 6 weeks in now and have to say Im more and more pleased with each week that goes by.

Ive got down to 2mg nicotine 'microtabs' which are tiny pills u put under ur tongue and which dissolve. You barely notice theyre there. Theyre a little expensive but doing the job.

I have still been getting a weird throat and slight flu symptoms occasionally, but generally I feel better and better each week. My new love for food has meant Im eating a lot better, although I have unearthed a bit of a demonic sweet tooth. Im doing yoga everyday to counteract this though, Ill let you know how it works out.

I still get occasional cravings though. When Im bored mainly, or when I finish work. I stayed in Saturday night - no beer and no cigs - have to admit I felt like a coiled spring. It all passes though just have to sit tight.

The funny thing is it got harder a few weeks ago, after the initial quitting. I'm not sure why. I had a burst of enthusiasm then it tailed off and I was left a little bored and angst-ridden.

Ive sworn down this time Im not gonna go back, and although Im not out of the woods I feel like I have more or less quit permanently.

Also trialing going teetotal, which I actually think might be harder than quitting smoking!
