Proving once again that the evolution argument may be closer to home than you believe, a story out of Russia buttresses that argument.

Zhora, an ex-performing chimpanzee, lost his gig at his circus as he became more aggressive. His transfer to a zoo in the southern city of Rostov did not work out so well either. After learning there how to draw with markers, and fathering several baby chimps, he picked up a couple more bad habits � smoking and drinking.

"The beer and cigarettes were ruining him. He would pester passers-by for booze," the Komsomolskaya Pravda paper reported.

Now, he has been transferred again. This time Zhora is headed to a monkey alcohol treatment center in the city of Kazan about 500 miles east of Moscow. Whether or not he learns the 12 steps may be harder to determine.
