I don't get the title to the one with the mini. That lady was very professional. And one guy commenting on it was really living in a fantasy world: easy to travel to North Korea and "They even have Internet access"? I'd think the most likely explanation for who's driving those cars is that they're diplomatic corps members.

They do that too. Besides the illegal human smugglers that sell North Korean women to Chinese farmers and the like, the North Korean government takes the prettiest young virgins in the country to be part of Kim Jong Il's personal 기쁨조 (pleasure corps) in his various palaces. Probably cheaper for them to use these gals than it is to provide electricity for traffic lights.

Who would have thought that they would have Boulevards with any traffic on them at all? Amazing!

I saw these "traffic beauties" during my first trip to North Korea in 2006 as part of then-envoy Christopher Hill's entourage.
It is part of the compulsory military/civil service in NK, where women serve between 3-4 years upon age 17. When I asked about it, the official (who was allowed to speak about it) said that becoming a traffic cop is a very sought after position because the women are allowed to live in police barracks, not in army barracks where conditions are very harsh. Also, it is usually given to those with low-level political connections. But the women have to fit a certain criteria to include height, weight as well as appearance since they are assigned in areas where foreigners would see them.
They are assigned at every major intersection in cities like Pyongyang and Gaeseong as well near many government buildings and foreign legations.

Taken from that wikipedia article:

Quote:
Kim Il-sung is believed to have established this corps of women in the belief that having sexual relations with young women would have the effect of enhancing his life force, or gi.

Why does everything from developing countries require a folksy mythological explanation? I mean, seriously? The dude's motivation for having sex with young women was that he believed it would "enhance his life force?" Was the explanation for why he ate food that he believed it would placate his stomach demons?

I've been told that the belief that having sex with young virgins being good for health and vitality is a traditional Korean and Japanese (perhaps other countries too?) belief. Sounds like self-serving b.s. to me.

Don't be silly, Street Magic. He eats because it allows him to absorb the positive qualities of that which he ingests. With the strength of a bull, the stamina of a whale, the speed of a bird, and the fertility of a fruit tree, how can any man oppose him?

What's your explanation? That he eats to fuel ongoing chemical processes in his body? Get real.

It's also supposed to cure the zombie virus.

What were we talking about?
