I have two bad marks againist me on my record here in Korea. the first is that I supposedly overstayed last year. I have no idea how I overstayed. My visa ended on 4/29 and I left on 5/10. I thought I had 2 weeks to leave? the second bad mark is related to supposedly working illegally. Which was completely resolved at the time but now it's still on my record.
I need help deseperately. Are there any adovacy groups for teachers? I'm in Changwon- or a lawyer that I can call?

Nope.
You must depart korea on the day your visa-stamp expires.
Only If your E2 is cancelled for some reason, then you get 2 weeks.

Except for charging you a lot of money which you probably don't want to pay (you'll need to pay up front), a lawyer is going to do exactly what for you?

As for an "advocacy group", the world is full of people that are very eager to help out for free someone who can't read a visa stamp.

Just take it on the chin.

Hmm..All these things happened and came to the attention of the authorities before right?

You mentioned last year, and also that the two indiscretions or whatever were dealt with etc

Where and how do u expect to be deported??

U mean when applying for a new Visa or what?
Why the sudden worry now..I don't get it!

U'll be fine.. Overstaying the visa by a couple of weeks and working illegally are minor probs.. especially when they've been dealt with already

Enjoy Korea..

I have just come back now to teach again, and that's why it's all coming up. I found out at the airport 40 minutes before leaving that I had these two bad marks against me. They gave me the option of staying (and missing my flight) to deal with it or not coming back for a year or two. Now I am told that I signed something saying that I would not return to korea. I don't remember that at all. maybe because I was in danger of missing my flight. Today I will go to immigration and they will decide whether or not I can stay. Any advice you can offer is greatly appreciated.

You can apply to extend your e-2 visa for up to a month after it expires.

"Helo" and you came to teach...

I guess I was typing too fast! ek. I can spell usually. At least I think better than most.
I didn't file for an extension because I had no idea that I was in need of doing so. I thought I had a month to exit the country. I never heard or was given any other information. I think now they give the teacher 14 days to leave which I was well within that period.

There is NO extension. You must leave on the date your E-2 visa indicates. If it is canceled you must go to Immigration and get an exit order.

Yes. Actually there is. I applied for one, with airticket in hand, and they gave me an extra week. The problem is, all immi districts play their own rules out.

What he meant was, there is no *automatic* extension. My contract ends on the 10th, I fly out on the 15th, and I need to give my boss my itinerary and ARC to get a 5-day extension.

Can you be somewhat less vague about where on the site this magical automatic extension of sojourn past the marked date on your ARC is located? Nobody here in Lake Wobegon Immigration seems to know what you're talking about, and in fact, when they see May 10th, they think it means I have to be out of the country by May 10th. Any help?

go to the hikorea site, register, look for the 30 day extension of sojourn (which turns you into a tourist for the extra 30 days), apply online, and as long as everything is in order they issue an electronic certificate which you print and show when you're leaving. My approval came through in something ridiculous, like 7 minutes, but makes sense not to leave it to the last minute. You don't need to visit / call an immigration office or get anything signed / stamped in person, the printed certificate is enough. Wouldn't surprise me if regional immigration officers don't have a clue what this is.

Sounds like a big hassle. I'll just send my boss to do it.
