http://www.boingboing.net/2010/03/01/profile-of-ex-narc-w.html

A former narcotics agent is going around setting up stings for crooked cops. Apparently, this is going to be a new reality TV show.

The video included covers the bust of a cop who used to force his dog to false alert so he could bypass probable cause.

I know I mentioned before how much I used to hate "secret shoppers" back when I worked at a supermarket, but I think of this as more along the lines of secret cashiers catching secret shoppers in the act of being totally lame.

Anyway, here are a couple excerpts from the former narc cop's site:

Quote:
Barry now admits during his tour of duty in the war on drugs his conscience often bothered him while seeing everyday, hard working, non-violent citizens torn from their children and spouses and placed in jail during a raid or traffic stop.

Barry explains, I knew what I was doing was wrong but my need for fame, adrenaline and peer acceptance overrode my good conscience. Barry now realizes this is a war on people not a war on drugs. He explains This war on people is a failed policy. We have more prisoners of this war in jail then ever before yet even the DEA admits we have more potent drugs and a larger supply of drugs available than ever before.

...

Barry contends law enforcement should place people in jail for the crimes they commit and not the drugs. If somebody abuses drugs to the point they are influenced to harm persons or property, then lock them up for harming the person or their property. This ensures the drug abusers who cause harm are locked away and the millions of drug users who never commit crimes get to stay home, go to school, continue working and be with their families.

Should have seen this coming:

http://trueslant.com/stephenwebster/2010/03/03/police-raid-never-get-busted-hq-barry-cooper-arrested/

and get this--

http://trueslant.com/stephenwebster/2010/03/05/barry-coopers-arrest-warrant/

Quote:
According to the warrant, someone self-identified as Ted Smith made the report, but Barrys voice was discernible in the background. Because of this, Barry was arrested and police invaded his home, taking his familys computers, phones and other digital media including their DVDs and his wifes iPod.

Williamson Countys reasoning here is that if someone makes a false police report, police have the authority to arrest anyone whose voice they can identify in the background, AND search their home.

The supposedly "false" report was the anonymous tip made by someone other than Barry that there was a suspicious bag, which there was on account of his crew having placed it there.

I like this one:

http://nevergetbusted.com/node/178

These guys planted Xmas trees under grow lights, and rigged the house up with cameras, then waited for the cops to come.

The pigs got phony search warrants and pulled all kinds of illegal crap.

Your link is for the same video I talked about, but I found a link to the one you're talking about (you have to scroll down a bit to get to it):

Great stuff-- thanks.

EDIT:

lol, look at the youtube comments--

@oneshotki11 We know it is an illegal raid BECAUSE there is NOTHING illegal in the house to inspire a search warrant! Duh! And yet...you see that a raid is taking place. Are you not able to put the two together?????? PLUS this was all over the news. Just because you see the video here alone does not mean 'that's all there is'...but the video itself DOES prove the point. HINT: Cops do not break in with guns drawn just to say 'Howdy'!!!!

Yeah because its impossible to have something illegal in a building one day, and then move it out in the next.
Nice try dummy. I wasx merely pointing out, based on the VIDEO ALONE, that there was no way to tell if the bust was illegal or not.
For all i know they have the proper warrants/papers, and the criminals have moved shop.

I don't think oneshotki11 understands the concept of a setup.

Kops Win: Barry Cooper calls it quits on reality show

After 16 months of promoting the KopBusters reality show, former Texas narcotics officer Barry Cooper is closing up shop out of fear that the next police retaliation may be much more severe.

Ive been told by lawyers, my fans and many people who love me that the next thing theyre gonna do is plant drugs on me and send me away for 20 years, or kill me or my wife Im not going to let that happen, he said in a telephone interview on Tuesday.

We put so much of our life into something good, Cooper continued. We got Yolanda out of prison. I had so many plans for KopBusters. We were gonna get to the point where we were targeting federal agents, but then I did these bag drops and look what happened! So, Im Im not doing any more cop stings. Im still going to make noise. Im still going to produce Never Get Busted. Im going to give speeches and Im still going to run for office. But Im done with KopBusters.

He first made the announcement during an April 9 episode of This American Life on National Public Radio, speaking with Texas Observer culture editor Michael May.

Emotion clearly audible in his voice, Barry confessed to the reporter: I never would have done those bag drops if Id have known it would-a led to this.

Barry and Candi are still trying to regain custody of Candis 7-year-old son Zachary. He was taken by his father after Williamson County police raided the familys home over an alleged misdemeanor and discovered less than a gram of marijuana. Though Child Protective Services closed the case and said theres no reason to believe the Coopers kids are in danger, Zachs father has not yet returned the boy and has made a number of allegations against Barry, mostly relating to the wildly exaggerated charges leveled by police.

A custody hearing in Upshur County, Texas is scheduled for Wednesday.

Whats next for Cooper? Hes got a few ideas but nothing too solid just yet. Given Barrys track record, I think its safe to assume well all be hearing more from the drug wars top insurgent before too long.

To listen in on Coppers This American Life segment, check out episode 405, available for streaming here. Coopers portion begins at 42 minutes. An MP3 is also available for download.

Meanwhile, keep an eye out for the April 30 edition of The Texas Observer. Im told it will feature a rather interesting story.

It's a shame, but actually I am surprised he was able to do as much as he did. He is probably doing the right thing form a personal POV, as it is not exactly unheard of for cops to set people up.

I'd put 25-year veteran Federal agent Mike Levine in the same vein with his Expert Witness Show which you can listen on WBAI. He doesn't set cops up, but he sure exposes lots of bad ones, like the Feds who let a child rapist continue raping children just so he could testify in a drug case.

Could have been a lot worse. The cops could have shown up at the house at two o'clock in the morning wearing ski-masks, kick in your door, kill your dogs, strip you naked and bind you, hold you for hours, then realize they had the wrong house.

But the police and federal agents can do no wrong! They're angels, heroes!

Some are. Some are the spear-point of tyranny, the muse that inspires a state of fear.
