I admit I'm not a "real" teacher. I just fake it.
The reason it almost happened once was I was working at a school who used to do "room inspections" (student dorms) at 11pm or later at night. Had a Senior girls PE class that came to class totally wiped out the next day. So I just took them all to my classroom and let them sleep. What prevented me from sleeping too was people would say I slept with them and I would have to go about explaining what happened.

So instead of teaching you let all your students sleep. Nice.

I still pity your students.

It is not very healthy at all to do physical exercise when one is that physically exhausted....and in this case through no fault of their own.
So Goon-Yang the only thing for you to pity is your stupidity. Take your cavalierism and shove it!

Eh?

What time was the class? How much sleep does a senior need before attempting exercise? I get the feeling that the expression "physically exhausted" might be something of an exaggeration.

Room inspections sometimes passed midnight and if they "fail" they have the wonderful punishment of doing exercise (that ought to constitute their PE class). School started at 7:50am and got out at 5pm - required (extra) ESL class for everybody at 7pm. Believe me there were other things that would add to the fatigue. The school advertised their meals as "buffet" but the students were told they could only get one serving and it was a pitifully small one at that. They allowed the teachers to take as much as they wanted so I would go up and secretly give my food to as many students as I could. Sometimes when I went out at night I would stop by and pick up some food for my students (out of my own wallet). One time they tried telling me in the cafeteria that I am only allowed to come up once. I went up a second time and just took as much as I wanted. Had an argument with the boss about it and I told her that if you advertise to everyone at the school that it is a buffet when it really isn't that is wrong. Her response? Well it's not really a buffet but it's "a buffet style" Shocked

Seriously, if you are in a position where you are close to sleeping, you aren't teaching.

If the topic was rephrased, I could say I almost fell asleep while proctoring an examination. It was hours long and too damn quiet for me. My head was nodding.

I've known Korean teachers that did take the desk face plant for a few minutes in such cases.

I'm teaching how to fight back against the stupidity that was going on. Oh yeah...the Philippines is very hot...the school decided to shut down all AC during the night (of course without telling us) so I woke up at 2am with hot air blowing from the vent. No fans in the room, no screens on the windows...nice
