every morning this week we have had protesters outside of our apartment building.
we live at a major intersection in our city. the protesters are laborers at a company getting screwed.
they set up on the corner with a van that has massive speakers on it then they blast the most godawful music at top volume while they stand around wearing billboards.
we have contacted the police but they say it is legal to do this.
I have considered throwing eggs at them or going down at cutting the speaker wires.
if I were fluent in korean I would go down there and talk to them. ask them if they truly believe they will get support by pissing off everyone in a square kilometer.
suggest that they set up a free food and beer stand to gather support.

Democracy is a beautiful thing.
Try giving them the free beer. Maybe they will lose steam and you can get some decent peace and quiet. Or it might backfire and get noisier. Either way, best of luck. |

Go take it out on their employer or the labor board and you'll be a hero for the cause. Make some real change! |

So the police can't do anything.
Why is this a common theme?
A group of American kids last summer were singing at the beach (not too loud), the police were all over them. |

| Protesting is perfectly legal, at least for Koreans. But that aside, I don't really see what the problem is. Just because we come from countries that are apathetic about political involvement doesn't mean that we should expect everyone else to be the same. |

The issue is the noise pollution, not the protesting. |

I know a guy who had that done to him. Only it wasn't his speaker wires. It was his cable TV. And it wasn't a disgruntled neighbor. It was a rival restaurateur. And, unfortunately, that wasn't a cable TV line. It was the KT mainline for roughly 4000 homes. The man is still in Korean prison.
Don't cut wires. |
